Job Title – Junior Systems Architect
The Enterprise Architecture team oversees the development, operation, and modernization of enterprise-level IT systems, including networking, infrastructure, applications, and program management services. We support IT and cybersecurity initiatives across multiple states and programs in accordance with Army, DISA, and DoD policies to drive scalability and operability of supported systems. Our responsibilities include capturing the current IT environment and providing critical insight for modernization, enterprise planning, and cybersecurity efforts.
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
The Junior Systems Architect develops, maintains, and supports IT enterprise infrastructure. This role requires initiative and independent judgment in managing assigned projects, while collaborating frequently with cross-functional and cybersecurity teams to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with enterprise objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical insight and guidance to stakeholders and cross-functional programs on system architecture and infrastructure planning.
Design and develop system models for existing enterprise infrastructure and environments.
Create, update, and maintain detailed network topology diagrams and supporting metadata for 54 states and territories.
Capture, document, and store the current (“as-is”) enterprise infrastructure to inform modernization efforts and future (“to-be”) architecture planning.
Perform data validation and translate complex technical/network infrastructures into clear visuals for enterprise planning and cybersecurity assessments.
Collaborate with cybersecurity, program, and leadership teams to ensure architecture documentation supports compliance, security, and operational objectives.
Support enterprise IT modernization by identifying opportunities for improvement in system design, integration, and documentation practices.
Conduct and support technical exchange meetings with stakeholders for product creation and delivery.
Maintain current knowledge of evolving technologies, tools, and industry standards relevant to network architecture, cybersecurity, and data modeling.
Create, develop, and maintain documentation, standards, and procedures related to architecture design and modeling practices.
Work independently to manage assigned tasks, projects, and deliverables, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with organizational guidelines.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Education:
Bachelors and 2 yrs experience (will consider other combinations of education, training and years of experience).
Experience:
1+ year of related experience in a Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, and/or IT Operations environment.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with data modeling tools (e.g., Visio, MagicDraw, draw.io, Cameo) and validation techniques.
Experience using ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for ticket management and workflow tracking within an ITIL framework.
Strong understanding of network and systems architecture principles and enterprise IT environments.
Familiarity with SharePoint, Azure, and other Microsoft technologies.
Certifications:
Must meet DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE) prior to start.
Must obtain a computing environment certification (e.g., ITIL v4 Foundations) within six months of hire.
When DoD 8140 requirements are implemented on the program/contract, employees must conform to 8140 certification standards.
Security Clearance:
Active SECRET security clearance required and must be maintained.
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while applying strong technical, communication, and documentation skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

LOCATION & WORK ARRANGEMENT
Location: Falls Church, VA
Work Schedule: Three (3) days onsite with up to two (2) days telework per week.
Onboarding/transition period requires onsite support for up to 60 days.
Work schedules are subject to change based on mission requirements as directed by GDIT or USG leadership.
