Recreation Specialist

The Town of South Kingstown has an exciting opportunity available at the Community Recreation Center.  The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking applicants for the position of part time Recreation Specialist.  The Recreation Specialist will work under the direction of the Recreation Center Manager and is responsible carrying out the regular day to day operation of the 29,000 square foot community recreation center. 

Salary
The position starts at $17 per hour and after successful completion of a 6 month probation period increases to $17.34 per hour.

Schedule
8 to 16 hours a week consisting of Saturday and Sunday shifts as well as night shiftsResponsibilities of this position include administrative, customer service and clerical duties; monitoring specific group requirements for various rooms and classes; supervising activities in the gym or multi-purpose room; distributing and collecting athletic equipment as needed; setting up and breaking down rooms; and ensuring that the facility and its programs are always operating in a safe and professional manner.  In addition, Recreation Specialists are expected to address public inquiries and be knowledgeable on all current recreation center and recreation department activities and programs.
To qualify, the successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old, and have a minimum of one year of recreation related experience in an increasingly responsible role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have, or be able to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within 6 months of hire.  A genuine interest in working with youth, teens and adults in a recreational setting is an essential requirement.
