We are currently recruiting for Legal counsel. You will have a positive impact as part of a technically proficient and solutions-oriented team supporting and advising on regulation, governance and strategic initiatives relating to the Vanguard enterprise. You will be a member of the Corporate and Enterprise Legal Services unit within the Europe Legal team reporting to the head of the unit.
Corporate and Enterprise Legal Services supports corporate and enterprise priorities covering strategic business priorities, regulatory advice, procurement and commercial contracts, and Legal Operations, contributing to a strong and connected Legal function.

In this role you will
Provide technical legal and regulatory advice and analysis on EU and UK regulation, guidance and other measures in respect of key enterprise topics. Advise on the practical implementation and integration of these requirements into the Vanguard business and its risk, governance and controls framework
Advise, support and collaborate with the Corporate Operations and Change Management functions and other stakeholders including Compliance, Public Policy, Risk and the business units to assess and respond to the impacts of emerging regulation and deliver on the implementation of new regulation and matters arising from it in the BAU business operations
Provide technical legal and regulatory advice and analysis on complex enterprise business change initiatives, including relating to the group regional organization, regulatory authorisations and corporate infrastructure
Conduct research, analysis and horizon scanning on regulation applicable to the Vanguard enterprise
Support the wider Corporate and Enterprise Legal services unit and the wider OGC Legal team as needed
Partner with OGC teams globally as needed, as well as colleagues in other areas of the Vanguard business
Develop and maintain knowledge and awareness of the investment industry, regulatory and/or policy changes with potential impact on Vanguard’s European group companies and operations, including representing Vanguard on various industry bodies
Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required
What it takes
Qualified lawyer with minimum five years’ PQE spent working in-house for an international asset management organization and/or in a private practice law firm, handling a variety of financial services, legal and regulatory matters
Experience in advising buy side businesses, familiarity with retail financial services regulation is an advantage
Good working knowledge of foundational regulatory frameworks including MiFID, UCITS and AIFM
Credible technical skills and experience interpreting regulation applicable to the asset management sector
Understanding of the priorities of UK regulators and policy makers. Experience in responding to consultation papers and implementing compliance with regulatory change projects, including advising businesses and other stakeholders directly on new and live regulations
A demonstrated ability to work on complex legal issues and to function in a high volume / fast-paced environment with multiple and diverse responsibilities, managing a varied and changing caseload
Excellent communication, stakeholder relationship management, negotiation, analytical and drafting skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently on demanding legal issues and to tight deadlines

This is a hybrid position and would require you to work in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)
