Job Summary
Position is responsible for serving as a clinical expert in the delivery and management of care for patients requiring autotransfusion during surgery in collaboration with the physician and the healthcare team. The position works collaboratively with the physician and healthcare team and reports directly to the Perfusionist Manager.Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Licenses/Certifications: Certification in autologous transfusion training program or (actively pursuing to receive within six (6) months of hire date)

Principal Accountabilities
- Performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the CQI process.
- Assembles and operates cell saver equipment for autotransfusion on all orthopedic and vascular cases and any other case when requested by the surgeon.
- Cleans and prepares various components of the autotransfusion machine and helps maintain the inventory of supplies.
- Maintains quality control data and monitors autotransfusion so that adequate records for medical and/or legal study will be available.
- Assists in the provision for coverage for all autotransfusion cases.
- Assists in the preparation of platelet gel products.
- Reports needed equipment repairs to the Perfusionist Manager in a timely manner.
- Responsible for knowing which type of fluid and antibiotics are safe to mix with the patient’s blood.
- Experienced with identification of sterile components of the autotransfusion system.
- Responsible for coverage of autotransfusion schedule including emergency/on-call schedule.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
