Position Summary
We are now hiring a Full TIme Licensed Practical Nurse to work as available. Shifts offered are Monday - Thursday during the day. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to support the clinic’s goals of providing each patient with a positive experience while receiving quality comprehensive eye care from the providers.
The LPN provides ongoing assessment and nursing care to patients in the facility in accordance with Physician’s orders, policies, procedures, and processes within the scope of practice. Participates in the teaching of patients and family and provides leadership by working cooperatively with the other health care team members. Collaborates with physicians and team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. Maintains standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
Responsibilities
- Acts as patient advocate.
- Perform delegated independent nursing functions using established procedures, policies, guidelines and standards as observed by the registered nurse.
- Administer medication accurately as evidenced by documentation in the medical record and lack of negative outcomes.
- assist with turning over surgical cases
- familiar with aseptic technique
- Maintain and coordinate communication among patient/significant other, staff and physician as evidenced within medical record, patient and health care team feedback.
- Assist in assuring that effective communication exists with patient and care team as reflected in the plan of care.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the health care team in coordination of the patient's care as evidenced by other department feedback.
- Assist patients, family members with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated. Document as appropriate.
- Reviews daily schedule and under the direction of the assigned RN prepares cases based on physician preference, facility policy and establishes and arranges a safe OR environment.
- Identifies and gathers supplies and equipment as needed for patient care.
- Demonstrates ability to set priorities and make rapid and effective clinical perioperative decisions.
- Maintains a safe OR environment and adheres to all patient safety requirements per policies and procedures.
- Follows standard precautions, aseptic technique and infection prevention policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates effective use of general equipment, surgical instrumentation and equipment for decontamination and sterilization.
- Demonstrates safe and effective specimen handling and documentation.
- Demonstrates effective skills in intravenous therapy, IV management and medication administration.
- Documents perioperative care timely, legibly, and accurately.
- Communicates intraoperative care in report to intraoperative and post-operative staff
- Attends staff meetings required and maintains compliance with educational requirements of job and/or license/certification.
- Must work well with all staff, physicians, vendors, and especially peers.
- Willing to assist others when requested.
- Demonstrates cooperation and works as a team member.
- Maintains pleasant and positive attitude
- Reports unusual occurrences and events in timely and accurate fashion and perform Process Improvements as needed.
- Accepts additional duties as requested and shows willingness to get involved in work place.
- Pre surgical screening phone calls
- Post surgical follow up calls
- Chart Audits and other quality assurance activities
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
- Completion of relevant state Board of Nursing approved.
- Current and valid LPN licensure in the State of Michigan.
- Current BLS Certification.
- ACLS cerification within 1 year of hire
- Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
- Demonstrates skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.
- Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement.
- Previous operating room experience is preferred.
- Is aware of professional nursing standards and performs in accordance with them.
