Position Purpose:
The Management Trainee role is designed to immerse participants in a comprehensive, hands-on operations-based program that equips them with the essential skills and knowledge to advance within the largest network of independent roofing and building products distributors in the U.S. This role requires embracing the core aspects of our business, culture, and values, while acquiring expertise in functions such as financial performance, safety, human resources, and supply chain management, ultimately preparing candidates to excel as future leaders, such as Branch Managers within the company. Supported by a dedicated Talent Management team and an array of training modalities, including individual coaching and industry exposure at our Corporate Headquarters, this position offers a unique and accelerated pathway toward impactful operational management and leadership roles within the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Embrace a comprehensive, hands-on approach by actively engaging in every branch function, mastering key operational areas such as product knowledge, software usage, fleet maintenance, and warehouse operations to ensure seamless management of a multimillion-dollar distribution center.
Collaborate closely with branch leadership to enhance financial performance, sales strategies, pricing models, supply chain efficiencies, and transportation logistics, driving the overall success and profitability of the branch.
Apply strategic human resources and people management skills to recruit, develop, and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of excellence and ensuring alignment with SRS Distribution's core values and business objectives.
Participate in an immersive 8 to 12 month training curriculum, including coaching sessions, webinars, online courses, and corporate headquarters training, to acquire industry-specific knowledge and leadership skills, preparing for advancement to roles such as Operations Territory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, or Branch Manager.
Contribute to a group capstone project, with expected outcomes presented to senior leadership.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external partners, leveraging interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication and collaboration, ultimately enhancing branch operations and customer satisfaction.
Demonstrate flexibility and commitment to career growth by relocating for training and promotional opportunities, gaining exposure to diverse operational environments and best practices within the SRS Distribution network.
Actively contribute to safety and compliance initiatives, implementing best practices to ensure a secure workplace and uphold the company's commitment to operational integrity and safety standards.
Engage with the Talent Management team and assigned mentors to receive personalized guidance and feedback, optimizing the training experience and accelerating professional development within the SRS Distribution Management Training Program.
Direct Manager Direct Reports:
The Management Trainee will directly report to the Branch Manager of their assigned location during each phase of the rotational training experience. The trainee will receive guidance and oversight from the Branch Manager and support from the dedicated Talent Management team, ensuring a comprehensive learning environment. This position does not include direct reports, as the role is designed to provide foundational experience and prepare the trainee for potential future leadership positions, such as Territory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, or Branch Manager, within the organization.
Travel Requirements:
Management Trainees are expected to travel up to 50% of the time to two distinct branch locations for training purposes, and attend a one-week, in-person training session at our Corporate Headquarters in McKinney, TX, to develop a comprehensive understanding of our business operations and culture.
Physical Requirements:
The Management Trainee position requires the ability to engage in a variety of physical activities typical of an office-based and hands-on operational environment. These activities may include, but are not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting or standing, frequent use of hands and fingers for tasks such as typing and handling materials, and the ability to communicate effectively in a professional setting. The role also involves occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 25 pounds, as well as the ability to travel to various training and operational sites as needed. Minimum Qualifications:
• Possession of a bachelor’s degree prior to start date, with a preference for disciplines such as Business Management, Construction Management, Industrial Distribution, Operations, Supply Chain, or related fields.
• In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, 2 plus years of related work experience is required.
• Willingness and commitment to relocate for both training and career advancement within the company.
• Demonstrated work experience, supported by exceptional references, indicating a strong work ethic.
• Evidenced involvement in team activities and leadership roles both academically and professionally.
• Effective interpersonal skills with a capacity to build and maintain strong, lasting relationships.

• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record with reliable transportation.
