Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role supports clients’ and/or program participants’ personal care and basic healthcare needs.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
• Answer call signals from clients.
• Maintain inventory of supplies.
• Provide for personal care in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, the client plan of care and within the scope of practice.
• Contribute to and follow a plan of care to meet clients’ assessed needs.
• Maintain accurate and completed records of personal care delivered.
• Demonstrate a professional working knowledge of all equipment used in the delivery of personal care.
• Follow all TSA policies and procedures.
• Observe, report, record client conditions and follow care plans as directed by the RN and/or RPN.
• Assist in maintaining an environment appropriate to meet clients’ individualized needs.
• Supervise clients ' exercise routines.
• Set up and provide leisure activities for clients.
• May accompany clients on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to patient care and comfort.
• May coordinate clients’ rooms Maintenance:.
• May take, report, and record clients' blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
• Administer, in emergency situations, first aid to injured or ill individuals within the scope of competencies.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work is typically in the facility space.
• Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required.
• May require some amount of standing, lifting, bending, carrying of supplies, and frequent walking up and down stairs.
• Requires attention to adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• May be exposed to disagreeable people, verbal abuse, people with behavioural or mental issues and may be exposed to hazardous cleaning chemicals.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Completion of a formal post-secondary/college certificate program and/or specialized courses or certification in the field of personal or patient care.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification
• NVCI Certification

• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a broad record check.

Experience and Knowledge:
• Three (3) years of prior related experience in a social services setting is required.
• Experience of working with senior population or in a geriatric facility will be considered as an asset.

Skills and Capabilities:
• Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect, and empathy in all interactions.

• Must be able to lift 40lbs without the assistance of others
• High standards of integrity, judgment, and confidentiality.
• A valid driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract may be required for some roles.
• Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required.
• Knowledge of current quality improvement and risk management concepts and approaches with special emphasis on the prevention of falls and least restraint policies.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $23.10 to $28.88 with a maximum of $34.65.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
