SUMMARY:
The Landscape Technician is responsible for maintaining the Florida State Fairgrounds’ landscape and grounds to ensure a clean, attractive, and well-maintained environment. This position performs a variety of landscaping duties, including planting, tree trimming, fertilizing, weed and insect control, and the safe operation of grounds maintenance equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports a beautiful landscape environment by ensuring proper quality of care of plant life, including all planting, fertilizing, trimming of trees and hedging of shrubs, planting flower beds and setting up flowerbeds.
- Ensures a high level of grounds protection/policing by collecting, loading, hauling trash and cuttings.
- Operates manual and powered grounds keeping equipment while following all safety measures.
- Supports department by assisting in various landscaping projects.
- Performs grounds maintenance work including spraying for insects and weeds.
- Supports additional needs for any light housekeeping or custodial duties as necessary.
- Other additional related duties as required.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of six months experience in lawn maintenance required. Two or more years of experience highly preferred. Valid Driver’s License required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of proper operation of mechanical and powered equipment used in grounds maintenance
- Working knowledge of safety requirements involved with operation of required tools and equipment
- Ability to operate mechanical and powered equipment used in grounds maintenance
- Ability to work effectively with others
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed primarily in an outside setting. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and lift or move 50+ pounds. Environmental demands include wet/humidity, work near mechanical parts, work near high places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.
