Dining Services Cook's Assistant (Temporary Position)

Join our dynamic Dining Services team at Williams College! We're seeking a dedicated and reliable temporary Cook's Assistant.  

Pay and Schedule:

  • Pay: starts at $23.00 per hour

  • Hours: 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm

  • Days: Vary as needed to cover open shifts

  • Note: All schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist cooks in the overall function of the kitchen, focusing on food quality preparation, temperatures, tastes, appearance, and garnishing.

  • Prep food per instructions from the First or Second Cook, following standardized recipes.

  • Fill in production reports at the end of meal periods.

  • Clean and sanitize service and food areas as needed during and at the end of shift periods.

  • Operate kitchen equipment including the Robo-Coupe, Slicer, Food processors, Peeler, and handle knives regularly.

  • Ensure all food items being produced are accurately labeled for food allergens.

  • Follow proper HACCP guidelines and ensure compliance with MA codes related to food, inventory control, and sanitation.

  • Practice sound environmental practices, including composting, recycling, and pre-consumer waste reduction.

  • Stay up to date with BBP and MSDS training and ensure Steritech compliance.

  • Establish daily/weekly cleaning schedules for the kitchen and assign staff responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of kitchen experience with some experience in preparing and cooking.

  • Ability to work independently, stand for prolonged periods, and handle heavy materials (up to 40 lbs).

  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and possess strong customer service skills.

  • Ability to relate to diverse customers and staff in a professional manner.

  • HACCP federal guideline certification is desirable.
