Utah First Credit Union is seeking an entrepreneurial banking leader to launch and grow our Practice Banking division. This is a rare opportunity to build a specialized business line from the ground up while serving the financial needs of physicians, dentists, veterinarians, attorneys, accountants, and other professional practice owners throughout Utah.
As the Director, Practice Banking, you will be responsible for developing and managing comprehensive banking relationships that include deposits, treasury management, cash flow solutions, and lending. You will serve as a trusted advisor to practice owners through every stage of the business lifecycle, from startup and acquisition to expansion, succession, and retirement.
Director, Practice Banking role is ideal for a proven relationship manager and business developer who thrives on creating new opportunities, building referral networks, and delivering customized financial solutions.
What You'll Do
- The Director, Practice Banking will build and lead the Practice Banking Program
- Develop and launch Utah First's Practice Banking vertical.
- Create the operating model, market strategy, service standards, and growth plan for the business line.
- Identify target markets and ideal client profiles across medical, dental, veterinary, legal, accounting, and other professional service industries.
- Establish performance metrics and drive growth in deposits, treasury services, loans and client relationships.
- Create internal playbooks, training materials, marketing resources, and referral partner strategies to support long-term success.
The Director, Practice Banking will develop New Business Relationships
- Prospect and cultivate banking relationships with professional practice owners and partners.
- Build strategic referral networks with CPAs, attorneys, consultants, brokers, and industry associations.
- Represent Utah First at professional association events, industry conferences, and community business functions.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of high-value clients.
The Director, Practice Banking will Deliver Comprehensive Banking Solutions
- Develop full banking relationships by growing operating deposits, reserve accounts, payroll accounts, and business savings relationships.
- Introduce treasury management services including:
- ACH Origination
- Remote Deposit Capture (RDC)
- Positive Pay
- Wire Services
- Merchant Services
- Business Online & Mobile Banking
- Partner with Retail, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, and Credit teams to provide a seamless client experience.
- Structure and originate practice acquisition loans, commercial real estate loans, equipment financing, working capital facilities, and lines of credit.
Manage Portfolio Performance
- Maintain a high-quality commercial loan portfolio.
- Monitor credit quality, covenant compliance, concentration risk, and overall relationship profitability.
- Achieve annual production goals for deposits, treasury revenue, member acquisition, and loans,.
- Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and CRM records.
Grow a Future Team
- Launch the vertical as an individual contributor while establishing the foundation for future expansion.
- Identify future staffing needs and participate in workforce planning.
- Help recruit, develop, and lead a team of Practice Banking professionals as the business grows.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor for future team members.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of commercial banking, business banking, or practice banking experience.
- Proven success in business development, relationship management, and portfolio growth.
- Experience working with treasury management products and a working knowledge of cash management solutions for small-to-mid-size businesses.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a complex relationship portfolio while simultaneously sourcing and closing new business opportunities.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving healthcare, dental, veterinary, legal, accounting, or other professional practice clients.
- Established network of referral partners within Utah.
- Strong understanding of practice acquisition financing and professional practice economics.
- Experience building new market segments, specialty banking programs, or niche business lines.
- Demonstrated success growing both loans and deposits within a commercial banking portfolio.
