Job Title: Card Fraud Analyst

Position Location: Raleigh, NC. Hybrid position, must live locally.

Job Summary:

The Card Fraud Analyst leads advanced card fraud detection, prevention, and analysis activities. This role serves as a technical and analytical expert, leveraging data, business intelligence tools, and industry knowledge to design and optimize fraud rules, assess fraud trends, support compliance, and partner with internal teams and third‑party vendors. The Card Fraud Analyst also acts as a liaison and escalation point to ensure effective resolution of complex fraud issues while safeguarding members and minimizing financial loss to the Credit Union.

As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:

  • (30%) Fraud Analytics, Reporting, and Trend Analysis: Analyze card fraud activity and losses by leveraging large data sets and business intelligence tools. Create, maintain, and deliver dashboards, reports, and data models that measure fraud rule performance, financial impact, and operational effectiveness. Monitor fraud trends within Coastal and the broader marketplace, including identifying common points of compromise and emerging risk patterns.

 

  • (25%) Fraud Rule Development, Optimization, and Testing: Proactively recommend, develop, install, test, and maintain credit and debit card fraud rules based on internal data, industry trends, and stakeholder needs. Translate business and risk requirements into actionable system configurations, ensuring optimal fraud detection while minimizing member impact. Perform testing related to rule changes, system enhancements, and projects.

 

  • (15%) Cross‑Functional Partnership and Escalation Management: Serve as a key liaison with Card Disputes Specialists to support escalated member situations and complex fraud cases. Act as a central point of coordination between Card Services, internal departments, processing partners, external vendors, and third‑party providers to resolve issues, support implementations, and maintain efficient daily operations.

 

  • (10%) Vendor, System, and Technology Support: Partner with third‑party providers regarding system configurations, fraud rule changes, upgrades, outstanding tickets, and enhancements. Provide analytical and technical guidance throughout the analysis, design, testing, implementation, and maintenance phases to ensure optimal fraud prevention performance and system stability.

 

  • (10%) Compliance, Policy, and Risk Support: Interpret and apply applicable regulations, including Regulation E and Regulation Z, as well as debit and credit card statutes, to ensure regulatory compliance. Contribute recommendations for the development and maintenance of card fraud and dispute policies and procedures based on data analysis, regulatory requirements, and operational best practices.

 

  • (10%) Process Improvement, Documentation, and Knowledge Sharing: Develop and document business functions, procedures, and workflows. Schedule and complete daily fraud monitoring tasks and provide training to junior analysts related to process changes, fraud trends, and system updates. Research and clear outstanding general ledger items to identify errors, trends, and opportunities for process or training improvements. Stay current on card fraud trends, evolving technologies, and vendor releases to continually strengthen fraud detection and prevention capabilities.

Experience:

  • Three years of financial institution experience in sales, lending, operations, or fraud
  • Two years of experience with relational database systems, such as Microsoft SQL, PowerBI or equivalent, and fraud rule analysis preferred
  • Experience with managing a relationship with a third-party provider

Education:

  • Related bachelor's degree or four years of additional experience in lieu of degree
