The City of Savannah is making the impossible, possible! We have the perfect opportunity that awaits you. Join our Senior Services Division today as the next Van Driver/Recreation Service Leader. This position is responsible for operating a bus or van to transport participants, city staff, and visitors to various locations and activities. This position also assists with daily programming activities.
- Operates vehicle to transport participants, staff, or visitors to various locations and activities.
- Maintains vehicle; checks oil and transmission fluid; sweeps vehicle out at the end of each day; fills vehicle with gas; inspects vehicle daily.
- Operates radio to communicate with personnel while in vehicle.
- Maintains vehicle record, including records of mileage.
- Advises supervisor of vehicle problems.
- May provide information of interest to visitors regarding city landmarks and points of interest.
- Plans, develop, organizes, and leads a variety of engaging therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and cultural activities designed to enhance the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being of senior adult participants.
- Encourages participant involvement by adapting activities to meet individual abilities, interests, and needs while promoting dignity, independence, and inclusion.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of participants by following established policies, procedures, and safety protocols during all activities and outings.
- Supervises participants during group and individual activities, including arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, wellness programs, educational sessions, celebrations, and community events.
- Observes participants for changes in physical, emotional, or cognitive condition and promptly reports concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assists with participant transportation, meal service, special events, and other program functions as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned in support of the Senior Adult Day Care program
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to read and understand maps required. Class B CDL required.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (hours varies)
Additional Requirements
Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Program Coordinator and the Parks and Recreation Director assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties connected to operating a bus or van to transport participants, city staff, and visitors to various locations and activities.
