Job Summary

Responsible for managing all aspects of ledger and sub-ledger accounting for AEP, including accounting activity related to the general ledger closing process and coordinating the review and submission of annual and quarterly financial reports (FERC, SEC, GAAP, etc). Support, direct and develop staff employees and contractors.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

• Responsible for managing all aspects of ledger accounting for AEP, including the core accounting services that are performed by AEP's third-party provider.
• Ensure monthly closing process is completed timely and accurately in order to meet management expectations.
• Review the implementation of new transactions and/or business lines in conjunction with AEP's third party provider of core accounting services.
• Assist Financial Reporting with timely issuance of AEP's annual 10-K and quarterly 10-Q's, including registrant and non-registrant reporting, MD&A and footnote preparation and review.
• Review and approve responses provided to data requests for AEP regulatory filings and proceedings, ensuring appropriate support and analysis.
• Manage the client side of external and internal audits by ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit requests and fostering a positive professional relationship with auditors.
• Manage the development and performance of detailed analytic procedures to proactively identify potential control issues and to add business insight to other AEP business partners.
• Foster employee development and growth through goal-setting, training and cultural initiatives.
• Promote initiatives to identify, develop and implement process improvements that strengthen outputs and result in measurable efficiency gains.
• Develop and cultivate positive business relationships between Accounting and its AEP business partners.
• Identify areas of accounting and financial reporting risk. Develop and implement mitigating and/or preventive controls and procedures to address such risk.
• Manage the implementation of regulatory orders with Regulatory Accounting Services, including accounting procedures for new transactions and/or new business lines.
• Review and/or assist with the preparation and review of internal management reports ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
• Ensure continued compliance with existing internal controls and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
• Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the AEP Corporate Compliance policy.
• Participate in special projects, as requested.
   

What We're Looking For:
 

Accounting Manager

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business with an concentration in Accounting.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years accounting experience.

Accounting Manager Sr.

• Education requirements are listed below: Bachelor degree in Accounting or Business with a concentration in Accounting or related field.
• Work Experience requirement listed below: 6 years accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPA certification preferred.
• Public accounting experience and/or experience with the client-side of an audit.
• Exposure to and familiarity with the utility industry Strong competency in written and verbal communication.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word PeopleSoft experience preferred.
• Detail-oriented with an ability to employ a logical approach to accomplish objectives and solve issues.
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing circumstances and requirements.
• Ability to work as part of a team and possess excellent time management and organization skills.
• Ability to lead and supervise others.
• Strong planning and organization skills.
• Continuous improvement mindset with the following competencies: Adaptability, Flexibility, Creativity and Initiative.

Compensation Range:

$116,255.00 - $177,503.00
