Description
The mission of the Gaston County Museum is to interpret the art and history of Gaston County and the region through education, preservation, and collection.The anticipated hiring range for this position is $15.48 - $18.38
The duties listed below are not all the duties that may be assigned but are those that are essential for an employee to perform.
Must be able to work a varying schedule and an ability to stand or sit while working. Able to lift 25lbs and climb stairs.The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
In compliance with G.S.153A-94.2 (b), if the position being filled requires an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity, the County must require the applicant, if offered the position, to be subject to a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI. These checks must be performed in accordance with G.S.143B-1209.26, whichauthorizes the SBI to provide fingerprint-based state and national criminal record checks to cities and counties.

- Greets museum visitors and provides an overview of the current exhibits and attractions so that the visitor's experience is maximized. Record statistical data pertaining to visitation and guest interaction with exhibits. Answer and transfer all in coming calls for staff.
- Maintains daily operations of the museum store by assisting shoppers, selling merchandise, stocking merchandise, taking inventory and performing other incidental museum shop duties as assigned.
- Monitors exhibits and displayed items by personal observation and via remote cameras to ensure the safety and security of museum collection pieces as well as items on loan to the museum.
- Opens all museum facilities and performs any needed exhibit set up at the beginning of the day. Secures the museum at closing by locking buildings and activiting alarm system.
- Provide guided tours/ gallery talks at the museum as assigned and scheduled by the Community Engagement Manager.
- Assist staff in education programs, museum special events, and collection research projects as assigned by the Community Engagement Manager.
- Assist staff in setting up for scheduled events and providing routine maintenance duties including, but not limited to, changing light bulbs, moving tables, and light gallery cleaning.
