Job Description:
Job Summary
The GPS Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in company transportation units. This position also supports GPS database management, installs and removes camera systems, conducts field data collection and quality control activities, and provides service support to locations throughout Texas and New Mexico.
Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and update GPS databases.
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and decommission GPS devices and associated equipment.
- Install and remove camera systems in company transportation units.
- Perform GPS operational activities, including field data collection, data management and quality control.
- Create, process, and close work orders upon completion.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for GPS equipment and related assets.
- Ensure all GPS and monitoring equipment operate properly and efficiently.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of vehicles for auction.
- Support quarterly asset inventory audits.
- Travel regularly to company locations throughout Texas and New Mexico.
- Safely operate a company vehicle during day or night hours, across varying terrain and in all weather conditions.
- Report unsafe conditions or practices to a supervisor, Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) personnel and/or Human Resources.
- Comply with all HSE policies and procedures, including attendance at required training sessions and safety meetings and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months’ experience maintaining and repairing GPS equipment, preferred
- Maintain a valid, current driver’s license and a clean driving record, required
- High school education or equivalent, required
- Bilingual (English-Spanish), preferred
- Basic knowledge of electronic equipment and GPS systems, required
- Basic mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools, required
- Experience as a preventative Maintenance technician, preferred
- Ability to read and interpret wire schematics, required
- Willingness to learn emerging vehicle and GPS technologies, required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with personnel at all levels of the organization, required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, required
- Ability to work extended shifts, including days or nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require
- Must be physically able to operate a vehicle at during day or night, on all terrain, and in all weather conditions
- Must be physically able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb ladders
