About the role
The Shift Supervisor leads the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a heavy industrial power-generation and resource-recovery facility during an assigned shift. This position supervises plant personnel and oversees high-pressure boilers, turbines, steam-generation systems, electric-generating equipment, instrumentation, control systems, and supporting plant equipment.
This role offers experienced operations leaders the opportunity to direct critical plant operations, develop a cross-trained workforce, and make an immediate impact on safety, environmental compliance, reliability, and power-generation performance. Shift Supervisors gain broad operating responsibility, lead technically skilled employees, and build experience supporting long-term advancement within plant operations leadership.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor conducts plant rounds, coordinates operations and maintenance personnel, and ensures compliance with safety procedures, environmental permits, regulatory requirements, and state operating-license standards. During emergencies, equipment failures, or abnormal operating conditions, the Shift Supervisor directs or personally performs the actions required to protect employees and equipment and restore safe, stable plant operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Keep plant operations within all environmental limits, permits, and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise the operation of high-pressure boilers, turbines, steam-generation systems, electric-generating equipment, instrumentation, control systems, and supporting equipment.
- Conduct regular plant rounds and monitor operating conditions, equipment performance, and personnel activities.
- Respond to injuries, accidents, equipment failures, operational emergencies, and abnormal plant conditions.
- Direct personnel and, when necessary, personally perform required operational actions to restore safe operation.
- Approve equipment clearances and lockout/tagout procedures and issue safety permits.
- Troubleshoot plant operational issues and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Maximize facility performance, reliability, operating efficiency, and equipment availability.
- Direct completion of shift, daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, checks, and housekeeping activities.
- Lead projects assigned by the Operations Manager.
- Train, mentor, and develop shift personnel to build a motivated, cross-trained, and technically capable workforce.
- Ensure the ongoing technical training and development of operations personnel.
- Maintain all required site-specific and state-mandated licenses and certifications.
Requirements
- Three or more years of supervisory experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Active New Jersey Operating Engineer or Boiler Operator license, including a Black Seal, Blue Seal, Red Seal, or an equivalent license appropriate for the facility’s equipment.
- Hands-on experience with high-pressure boilers and electric-generating equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of steam-generating power plant operations, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Power-generation or resource-recovery experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
- Ability to work rotating day and night shifts, including weekends, holidays, outage periods, overtime, and vacation coverage.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to qualify for and wear a full-face respirator.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and operating conditions.

Pay Transparency
Reworld is committed to paying its staff equitably, and we strive to provide competitive compensation and benefits packages. The range below reflects Reworld’s reasonable estimate of base pay for this role based on primary posting location. It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.
The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $118,700.00 - $169,800.00 USD per annum
