The Role

The Fixed Income research associate program is designed to recruit talented, industrious candidates to support Fidelity’s bond and money market investment processes and train them with the foundational skills to launch successful careers in investing.

In this associate role, you will support the work of senior analysts on the Fixed Income research team to: (i) provide in-depth coverage of assigned sectors; (ii) build and maintain financial models; (iii) draft and produce research material; (iv) maintain robust and accurate data; (v) communicate credit opinions; and (vi) generate investment ideas. You will interact regularly with analysts, portfolio managers and traders across a variety of investment mandates. Our investment process is heavily team-based, and the successful associate will contribute regularly and effectively to group activities. 

The Fixed Income Division’s research associate program utilizes an apprenticeship model and provides the participants with experience in fixed income research and investing, as well as in-depth training in particular sectors. The program is designed to last 4 years, at which time successful associates are typically positioned for more senior roles within Fidelity, the asset management industry, or top graduate programs.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

We are currently seeking candidates who have the following characteristics:

• 1-2 years of relevant work experience; progress towards the CFA designation is a plus
• Strong quantitative analytical skills, including experience with financial modeling
• Critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, including demonstrated interest in investing
• Highly organized and strong attention to detail
• Results-driven; self-motivated to succeed and demonstrate work ethic
• Ability to work and contribute as part of a team
• Excellent oral and written communication

Fidelity’s Fixed Income division is one of the leading managers of bond and money market instruments with over $2 trillion in fixed income assets. The Fixed Income team combines fundamental research on domestic and international debt issuers with macroeconomic and quantitative analysis to develop investment decisions that stay true to each portfolio’s defined investment mandate, while aiming to maximize risk-adjusted total return for our clients. The Fixed Income division is headquartered / located primarily in Merrimack, New Hampshire, one hour north of Boston.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
