Azure Cloud & DevOps Engineer

Stout is seeking an experienced Azure Cloud & DevOps Engineer to provision, configure, automate, secure, and support services across the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. This role focuses on Azure DevOps, Azure PaaS services, cloud networking, identity and access management, security, CI/CD, and automation.

The engineer will also support application deployment troubleshooting when issues extend beyond infrastructure or pipeline configuration. Familiarity with Python, C#, and Node.js is helpful for this work, but software development is not a primary responsibility of the position.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer Azure DevOps organizations, projects, users, permissions, repositories, service connections, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Build, configure, and troubleshoot Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, including Workload Identity Federation service connections.
• Provision, configure, secure, and support Azure App Service, deployment slots, Azure Data Factory, Azure Key Vault, Azure AI services, and Azure Virtual Desktop.
• Configure Azure networking and access controls, including VNets, VNet Integration, Private Endpoints, Private Link, DNS, and Web App IP restrictions.
• Configure and support Azure Front Door, including custom domains, endpoints, origins, routes, API paths, and Web Application Firewall (WAF) policies.
• Troubleshoot WAF false positives and tune policies while maintaining appropriate security controls.
• Configure Azure API Management, API subscriptions, backend connectivity, and access restrictions that limit direct access to target Web Apps.
• Administer Microsoft Entra ID components, including App Registrations, Enterprise Applications, Service Principals, Managed Identities, role-based access control (RBAC), and Conditional Access policies.
• Automate Azure administration and configuration using Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, and scripting.
• Support database connectivity, access, and administration across Azure SQL, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, and Azure Cosmos DB environments.
• Configure and troubleshoot Windows Scheduled Tasks, including service account and permission issues.
• Partner with application owners and citizen developers to resolve deployment issues and establish repeatable Azure DevOps deployment processes.

Required Skills and Experience

• Hands-on experience administering Azure DevOps organizations, projects, users, permissions, repositories, service connections, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, including Workload Identity Federation.
• Strong working knowledge of Git, including repository management, branching workflows, and command-line operations.
• Experience with Azure App Service, including Web Apps, App Service Plans, deployment slots, application configuration, networking, and IP access restrictions.
• Experience automating Azure administration using Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, and scripting.
• Strong knowledge of Azure networking, including VNets, VNet Integration, Private Endpoints, Private Link, DNS, connectivity, and access troubleshooting.
• Experience configuring and supporting Azure Front Door and WAF, including domains, endpoints, routes, origins, API paths, false-positive troubleshooting, and policy tuning.
• Experience with Azure API Management, including API and subscription management, backend connectivity, and securing target Web Apps behind APIM.
• Experience administering Microsoft Entra ID, including App Registrations, Enterprise Applications, Service Principals, Managed Identities, RBAC, and Conditional Access.
• Experience with Azure Key Vault, including secrets access, identity-based permissions, and connectivity troubleshooting.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory and exposure to Azure AI Document Intelligence and/or Azure AI Foundry.
• Experience supporting one or more database platforms, including Azure SQL, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, or Azure Cosmos DB.
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Azure Virtual Desktop environments.
• Experience with Windows Server configuration and troubleshooting.

Application Deployment Support

This is not a software development role. The engineer should be comfortable helping application teams troubleshoot deployment-related issues involving application configuration, dependencies, build processes, and runtime behavior.

• Ability to read and understand Python, C#, and Node.js/JavaScript code when needed for deployment troubleshooting.
• Ability to identify common configuration, dependency, build, and environment-specific issues.
• Experience working with application owners or citizen developers to move applications into secure, supportable Azure environments.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an Azure infrastructure and DevOps engineer with hands-on experience across Azure DevOps, App Service, networking, Front Door and WAF, API Management, Microsoft Entra ID, Key Vault, identity and access management, security, and automation.

The candidate should be comfortable owning cloud infrastructure and pipeline troubleshooting while working effectively with application, security, infrastructure, and data teams when issues cross technical boundaries.
