About This Opportunity 

Join a visionary and collaborative research team working at the forefront of Australia’s energy transition. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will contribute to the Grid Enhancement Technologies grants program funded by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water for the project, “Enhancing Grid Stability: Oscillation Localisation and Visualisation”, through a partnership between  EPEC Engineering, the University of Queensland and Powerlink Queensland.

Working within the Power, Energy and Control Engineering discipline in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, you will help develop innovative solutions that improve the stability, visibility and resilience of Australia’s electricity network. Leveraging world-class facilities and a connected network of industry and research partners, you will play a meaningful role in accelerating secure renewable energy integration and supporting Australia’s net-zero ambitions.

Key responsibilities will include: 

• Research: Develop advanced oscillation source localisation techniques for inverter-based resource dominated power systems, including mode identification, source detection, dynamic event classification, hardware-in-the-loop validation, research publication, and grant-supported project delivery.
• Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree Research students, support researcher capability development, and collaborate in the delivery of professional development initiatives.
• Citizenship and Service: Foster productive partnerships with industry and government stakeholders, contribute to School and University initiatives, participate in service activities, and demonstrate behaviours aligned with UQ values.
• Industry Engagement: Work closely with EPEC Engineering, Powerlink Queensland, and other stakeholders to translate research outcomes into practical tools that strengthen network operations and renewable energy integration.

About You 

You are an emerging researcher who is passionate about solving complex energy challenges and creating meaningful impact through innovative power systems research. You will bring:

• Completion, or near completion, of a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in power system dynamics, stability analysis, renewable energy integration, or related areas.
• Knowledge of data-driven analytics, machine learning, signal processing, or advanced modelling techniques relevant to power systems.
• Experience with real-time simulation platforms, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or power system validation methodologies.
• Evidence of publication in reputable peer-reviewed journals and presentation of research outcomes at conferences.
• An emerging research profile with the ability to contribute to collaborative, externally funded research projects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with researchers, students, industry partners and government stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful and collaborative research environment.
