ON -SITE
The University of Miami Project Management Office has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Project Manager - IT to work on-site in Coral Gables, FL.
This position plays a critical role in leading and delivering complex IT projects within the Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO). It requires strong technical acumen and proven experience managing all phases of the project lifecycle, from initiation through implementation across various IT domains such as infrastructure, systems integration, application development, and cybersecurity. The Sr. PM partners closely with IT subject matter experts (SMEs), systems analysts, developers, and external vendors to ensure successful execution of IT-related projects that support organizational goals.
Core Responsibilities:
Manages projects with support staff, provides them with a clear understanding of the department’s mission, and directs them in achieving this mission.
Monitors the performance of the support technicians for quality assurance and ensures that assignments are accomplished as scheduled and according to specified objectives.
Coordinates the efforts of the functional departments to ensure that the projects are conducted in accordance with the requirements of the project charters.
Interfaces with customers on schedules, meetings, and problems.
Keeps customers informed on the project status. Anticipates potential schedule or priority delays and initiates plans for alternative actions.
Creates strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning.
Manages changes to the project scope, schedule, and costs, using appropriate verification techniques, to keep the project plan accurate and updated.
Ensures a common understanding of project goals by setting expectations in accordance with project plans.
Records detailed customer requirements, constraints, and assumptions with stakeholders to establish project deliverables.
Pursues ways to improve operations and provides management with productivity reports.
Establishes priorities which meet the departmental goals and objectives and identifies areas of improvement. Implements an action plan or initiative to achieve goals and objectives.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Department Specific Functions:
Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of IT projects. Ensure scope, schedule, and budget are well-defined and aligned with business and technical requirements.
Collaborate closely with IT SMEs, system analysts, architects, and developers to understand technical dependencies, sequence tasks, and translate them into actionable project plans.
Build and maintain detailed project schedules that reflect the interdependencies of technical and business tasks. Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed.
Proactively identify risks and issues, develop mitigation plans, and drive resolution in collaboration with IT and business stakeholders.
Serve as the main point of contact for project communications. Provide regular status updates to stakeholders and leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment.
Apply appropriate project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and tools (e.g., Smartsheet, MS Project) to support project delivery.
Guide cross-functional project teams, facilitate meetings, and ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities, and deliverables.
Conduct post-project evaluations to identify successes, improvement areas, and lessons learned to enhance future delivery.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field preferred
PMP, PMI-ACP, or other relevant project management certification preferred
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, 5+ years of hands-on experience managing IT projects preferred
Solid understanding of IT processes, system development lifecycles, and enterprise technology environments preferred
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent IT projects in a matrixed environment preferred
Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications
Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders
Familiarity with infrastructure deployments, software rollouts, system migrations, cloud Infrastructure implementations.
Experience with a University Health System and Health Applications projects is a plus.
Working knowledge using Smartsheet to track project plans, and all project artifacts
Process improvement project knowledge and mindset.
Change management skills
Comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Experience working with vendors, third-party providers, or consultants in IT project delivery.
Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
