Job Summary

Mass General Brigham (MGB) invites inquiries, nominations, and applications in our international search for the next enterprise-level Chair, Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. MGB is an integrated academic healthcare system, which includes its two founding academic medical centers, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), three nationally renowned specialty hospitals, McLean (Psychiatry), Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and network, and Mass Eye and Ear, seven community hospitals, multiple ambulatory sites, physician groups, an insurance company, home-based care, and long-term care services. MGB is one of the world's most renowned health systems and, as a non-profit organization, is deeply committed to its four-part mission of patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community.

As a senior physician executive leader within MGB, the Chair will lead one of the world's premier academic departments of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, bringing together the clinical and academic excellence of Mass Eye and Ear, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and an expanding network of community hospitals and ambulatory locations across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The Department comprises more than 325 faculty members and trainees, including 202 Harvard Medical School faculty (HMS) and emeriti and 126 residents, fellows, and research trainees. The clinical enterprise supports more than 170,000 outpatient visits and over 14,000 operative cases annually, while delivering highly specialized care across every major otolaryngology subspecialty. The Chair will also be nominated to lead the HMS department, which oversees the academic appointments and promotions of faculty and trainees in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery across all HMS’ teaching affiliates, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital.

The Department is internationally recognized for excellence across the full spectrum of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery, with nationally leading programs in head and neck oncology, hearing sciences, otology and neurotology, rhinology and skull base surgery, laryngology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, sleep surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and related subspecialties. Anchored by Mass Eye and Ear and spanning two world-renowned academic medical centers, the Department offers an unparalleled platform for clinical innovation, translational discovery, and physician-scientist leadership, positioning the next Chair to shape the future of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery on a global scale.

Building upon this extraordinary foundation, the next Chair will be responsible for sustaining and elevating the Department's performance while leading its continued enterprise integration across Mass General Brigham. The successful Chair will demonstrate exceptional operational and financial acumen, a commitment to scientific discovery and academic excellence, the ability to develop and inspire high-performing teams, and the strategic vision necessary to advance one of the world's leading departments of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery while delivering lasting enterprise-wide impact across Mass General Brigham.

The base salary range for this position is $925,000 to $1,250,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, subspecialty, credentials, academic accomplishments, clinical productivity, quality metrics, patient experience, site/location, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. In addition, this leader will be eligible for a bonus incentive program and a comprehensive benefits package. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
