Overview:

The Maintenance Manager is a key leadership role within Engineering & Maintenance (E&M), accountable for the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of site maintenance activities across utilities, facilities, and production support systems.

 

The role leads maintenance teams and contractors, ensuring reliable asset performance and alignment with production requirements. Through strong execution discipline, CMMS utilization, and cross-functional collaboration, the role supports operational continuity and positions maintenance as a critical enabler of safe and compliant manufacturing.

Main Responsibilities:

• Lead execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities across all site assets, including utilities (e.g., steam, water, compressed air), HVAC, refrigeration, electrical and mechanical systems, infrastructure, and building systems, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable operation. 
• Ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality execution of all maintenance work in alignment with GMP and HSE standards. 
• Supervise and coordinate maintenance teams and contractors to ensure timely completion of work and proper documentation in CMMS (SAP/iShift). 
• Partner with Production (APUs), Engineering, and Quality to support production schedules, minimize downtime, and ensure reliable asset performance. 
• Support shutdown execution activities, ensuring readiness, scope alignment, and coordination with planning teams. 
• Manage site infrastructure, mechanical rooms, and facility-related programs (e.g., gembas, repairs), ensuring standards are maintained. 
• Support cost control initiatives and drive efficient use of resources while maintaining safety and compliance. 
• Respond to site emergencies and provide on-call support to ensure timely and effective resolution of issues.

 

Key Roles:

• Define maintenance execution priorities, resource allocation, and daily/weekly work plans to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Advise Maintenance and Site Leadership on execution risks, resource constraints, and operational impacts.
• Inform stakeholders on maintenance performance, work execution status, risks, and mitigation actions through established routines.

 

Additional Accountabilities:

1. Maintenance Execution 

• Own day-to-day maintenance execution across site utilities, facilities, and infrastructure.
• Ensure all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP and HSE requirements.
• Drive quality of work execution, ensuring proper job plans, documentation, and CMMS discipline.

2. Planning & Coordination

• Ensure alignment between planned work, production schedules, and resource availability.

• Support coordination with Shutdown Planning and ensure execution readiness.

• Optimize resource utilization across trades and contractors

3. Governance & Performance Management

• Monitor maintenance execution performance (schedule adherence, work completion, backlog).

• Ensure compliance with maintenance standards, SOPs, and global expectations.

• Provide visibility on performance, risks, and execution gaps.

4. Risk & Issue Management

• Identify and mitigate risks impacting maintenance execution and site operations.

• Lead troubleshooting and structured problem-solving for equipment and system issues.

• Ensure escalation and timely resolution of critical issues.

5. Cross-Functional Leadership

• Collaborate with Production (APUs), Engineering, Reliability, Quality, and Supply Chain.

• Support project execution, commissioning, and asset handovers.

• Enable integrated execution across maintenance and operations teams.

6. Continuous Improvement

• Drive continuous improvement in maintenance execution using Lean and best practices.

• Support implementation of digital tools and CMMS improvements.

• Promote standardization and efficiency across maintenance activities.

 

HSE Requirement/Statement:

• Ensure full compliance with all HSE policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.

• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe execution of all maintenance work.

• Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures by employees and contractors.

• Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

• Take all reasonable precautions to protect the health and safety of personnel. 
  Collaborate with HSE governance bodies to improve safety performance.

• Monitor safety performance and ensure escalation of key risks.

 

About You

Education / Experience / Technical Skills:

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and minimum 3 years of relevant maintenance planning and scheduling experience.

• Strong experience in maintenance planning and scheduling within a manufacturing environment.

• Experience in GMP-regulated industries preferred.

• Strong knowledge of SAP PM or equivalent CMMS systems.

• Understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.

• Experience with shutdown planning and coordination is required.

• Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer license (Ontario) or membership in relevant professional association (e.g., OACETT)

• Process engineering experience

• Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing environments

The salary range for this position is:

76,200.00 - 110,100.00

Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefits programs, and additional benefits information can be found through the (CA)LINKOR (US) LINK.
