Description:

Manager- Respiratory Dept. NYP - Lower Manhattan Campus - Full time Days

Coordinates the activities, supervisor’s tasks, educational in services, and general management of a department to meet patient needs and maintain highest standard of proficiency for staff; achieves efficient utilization of staff and equipment and maintains good rapport with all employees. Manager is capable of performing all tasks designated to departmental staff members. Performs according to the Hospital’s standards for Customer Service. Supports and adheres to the Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values Statements and performs according to the Hospital’s standards for Patient Safety and Customer Service.

Essental Job Duties

Assigns specific assignments and responsibilities; sets goals to be completed by individual staff.

Prepares personal expense and supply budgets and stays within budget.

Establishes and achieves annual departmental goals and objectives and ensures they are not in conflict with hospital goals.

Completes annual performances appraisals on direct reports and ensures that all departmental employees are evaluated before deadline.

Monitors employees to ensure compliance with Hospital and Human Resources policies.

Leads performance improvement activity to monitor and enhance customer/patient confidentiality and satisfaction.

Demonstrates ability to prioritize, delegate and act as a resource person for the departmental team.

Supports the mission, vision and goals of the NY Downtown Hospital and department as demonstrated by specific work achievements.

Develops and evaluates department based competencies for all on a yearly basis.

Understands duties and responsibilities of the position.

Effective in application of hospital policy and procedures and development of departmental policy and procedures.

Capacity for original thinking and ability to visualize and anticipate new problems.

Ability to accomplish results by working with or through other people.

Ensures that direct reports have medical clearance before employment commences and annual physicals are completed as per policy and procedure.

Completes probationary and annual evaluations (including AGE APECIFIC competencies) for direct reports as per policy and procedure.

Performs all duties inherent to managerial role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluation and termination of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures.

Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Required Criteria -

Education

Associate Degree in Applied Science and Respiratory Therapy (American Medical Association approved)

　　

Licensure/Certifications

New York State Respiratory Therapist License

Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy

Basic Life Support Certification (BCLS)

　　

Work Experience

Five years critical care experience, two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity

Working knowledge of current standards of mechanical ventilation and ventilators

Basic computer application knowledge

Preferred Criteria

Ability to clearly communicate in English and write legibly

Intubation experience
