Digital Content Producer

PIX11 News is looking for a full-time digital first journalist who is passionate, talented and hard-working to help manage PIX11.com and its social platforms. 

This digital producer role will be focused on creating at least two vertical videos a day for our social platforms and news apps. They will also be responsible for writing articles for our PIX11.com website.  The ideal candidate will have a knack for finding stories that align with our content pillars as a news organization. They will also have a general knowledge of the area including all of NYC and New Jersey. 

He/she ll be an expert in SEO and vertical video content creation as well. While creating content that performs well is ideal - we are more focused on locating a candidate who is well-versed in adapting news stories for social media consumption that focus on integrity, service and reliability. 

The candidate for this role will be able to produce fast, compelling and accurate content, and help take PIX11.com to the next level as an important source for news and video with a strong local focus. This role will include morning, evening and weekend shifts.

The position’s chief responsibilities require that the producer:

·         Be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Digital producers are expected to write multiple stories per day, shoot/edit two vertical videos a day and pivot to breaking news stories as needed.

·         Be proficient in creating vertical videos and have knowledge of programs like Adobe Premiere and CapCut. 

·         Be proactive in content discovery, identify social media content that our audiences will want and keep abreast of breaking local news.

·         Have knowledge of SEO best practices and website optimization. The ability to write strong headlines is essential.

·         Be familiar with website and social media analytics, and how to use these metrics to inform future editorial decisions, grow our digital audience and drive traffic. 

·         Create vertical video content and write compelling social media copies for Facebook, TikTok, X and Instagram. 

·         Create engaging mobile app and desktop pushes using language that drives pageview traffic.

·         Copy and edit stories and video graphics, keeping in mind both grammar and AP style.

·         Clip and publish video segments from newscasts. Be prepared for possible assistance with assignment desk newsgathering and answering phones. 

Requirements and skills

• Minimum of 2-3 years of news reporting or writing experience in a digital space.
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience gathering in a linear or broadcast space. 
• Ability to work professionally with station staff to put out the best possible digital product. Applicants should be able to work independently and as part of a larger team, including fellow digital producers, assignment editors, reporters and TV producers.
• Passion for the news, digital presentation and a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
• Curiosity about the latest digital tools and a willingness to experiment with new ways to tell stories and reach a wider audience.
• Knowledge of the following tools is a plus: WordPress, Google Trends, Chartbeat, Meta Insights, CapCut, Adobe Premiere and Social News Desk.

Hourly rate: $29 +
