Job purpose
The Staff Tax Accountant - Financial Solutions plays an important role in delivering high-quality tax and accounting services to BELAY clients. This client-facing role supports multiple client engagements by preparing individual and business tax returns, assisting with tax planning and research, responding to day-to-day tax matters, and participating in client meetings.
The Staff Tax Accountant works closely with clients and internal team members to provide accurate, timely, and responsive service while continuing to build technical tax knowledge and client advisory skills.
While tax season brings periods of increased workload, this role offers a more balanced alternative to the traditional public accounting environment, with an emphasis on sustainable workloads and work-life balance throughout the year.
Essential Functions
As a BELAY Corporate Team member, you will professionally represent the company in all virtual and in-person interactions. You are expected to exemplify our mission, vision, and core values while fostering a collaborative and positive team environment.
Tax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare individual, C corporation, S corporation, and partnership tax returns and supporting workpapers
- Calculate tax extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments accurately and efficiently
- Conduct tax research to support client needs and tax positions
- Assist with tax planning projects and identify potential tax-saving opportunities
- Assist with responses to notices and correspondence from the IRS and state taxing authorities
- Support ad hoc tax and accounting projects as needed
Client Service & Communication
- Provide timely, professional, and responsive support to assigned clients
- Participate in client meetings and assist with day-to-day tax questions and requests
- Communicate clearly and proactively with clients and internal team members
- Build strong client relationships through reliable and consistent service
- Escalate complex tax matters or client concerns to appropriate team members as needed
Workflow & Process Management
- Manage multiple client assignments while meeting established deadlines and quality expectations
- Maintain accurate time tracking, workflow updates, and documentation within firm systems
- Communicate proactively regarding deadlines, questions, or potential issues
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and internal processes
- Collaborate with team members to ensure accurate and timely completion of client work
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1–2 years of accounting and tax preparation experience
- Experience preparing individual and business tax returns
- Foundational knowledge of federal and state tax laws and accounting principles
- Experience working with financial statements and general accounting concepts
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks Online, tax preparation software, and workflow or time-tracking tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a public accounting, outsourced accounting, or client-service environment
- CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or active CPA candidate
- Experience supporting small and mid-sized businesses or startups
- Experience with Thomson Reuters UltraTax
- Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online

Working Conditions
BELAY is a remote-first organization. This role requires a dedicated home office, regular use of virtual collaboration tools, and a work schedule that aligns with business needs and BELAY's core collaboration hours. Occasional travel or flexibility outside standard business hours may be required based on the role.

Compensation
Salary Range: $60k-$75k
Location Requirements:
This role is fully remote within the U.S. *Eastern or Central Time Zone*. However, due to employment and tax compliance considerations, we are currently unable to hire employees in the following states: California, New York, Illinois, Oregon.
