Description

As a key member of the Information Technology Services team, the Integration Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise integrations that support the institution’s digital transformation initiatives and delivery of modern user experiences. This role focuses on building, enhancing, and supporting API and SDK integrations that connect critical campus systems, including student information systems, learning management platforms, enterprise applications, and the institutional data lake. The position requires a versatile developer with experience in multiple development languages and technologies, including but not limited to Python, JSON, RESTful APIs, PHP, and related integration frameworks. The Integration Developer works closely with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors to create scalable, reliable, and secure data exchange solutions, while contributing to application modernization efforts, integration architecture, and the continuous improvement of institutional technology platforms.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain API and SDK integrations between institutional systems, cloud services, and third-party applications.
  • Build scalable, secure, and reliable integration solutions that support business processes, data exchange, and digital transformation initiatives across the institution.
  • Develop and maintain integration services, middleware components, scripts, and supporting applications using technologies such as Python, JSON, RESTful APIs, PHP, and related frameworks.
  • Collaborate with functional and technical teams to gather requirements, define integration specifications, and implement solutions that align with institutional objectives and technical standards.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application and integration issues while ensuring data integrity, system reliability, and continuity of service.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including integration designs, data mappings, API specifications, development standards, and support procedures.
  • Participate in application modernization and system enhancement projects by identifying opportunities to improve integration architecture, workflows, and data exchange processes.
  • Monitor integration performance and proactively optimize solutions for scalability, maintainability, security, and efficiency.
  • Implement and follow secure development practices while ensuring compliance with institutional policies, FERPA requirements, and industry security standards.
  • Support integrations with external vendors, software providers, and technology partners, including technical coordination, testing, and implementation activities.
  • Conduct code reviews, testing, and quality assurance activities to ensure reliable and maintainable integration solutions.
  • Mentor and train IT staff on integration technologies, APIs, development standards, and best practices to strengthen internal technical capabilities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong proficiency in designing, developing, testing, and supporting RESTful APIs, web services, webhooks, and OAuth/OpenID Connect authentication mechanisms.
  • Experience developing and maintaining applications, integrations, and services using languages such as PHP, Python, JavaScript, Java, or similar modern development technologies.
  • Strong understanding of API design principles, data modeling, JSON/XML data formats, and integration architecture patterns.
  • Experience with API development, testing, and documentation tools such as Postman, Bruno, Swagger/OpenAPI, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with source code management tools (e.g., Git) and collaborative software development practices, including code reviews and version control workflows.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment processes, and DevOps practices supporting application and integration development.
  • Experience working with integration platforms, middleware technologies, message queues, API gateways, or enterprise service architectures.
  • Knowledge of Python development environments, including package management, virtual environments, dependency management, and application deployment practices.
  • Experience integrating enterprise systems such as Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, ERP applications, or cloud-based platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills with the ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex application and integration issues.
  • Understanding of secure software development practices and data security principles, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and vulnerability mitigation.
  • Knowledge of higher education data governance, privacy regulations, and accessibility requirements, including FERPA and WCAG standards.
  • Familiarity with relational databases, SQL development, and data integration concepts, including ETL processes and data synchronization methodologies.
  • Experience working with cloud-hosted services, SaaS applications, and modern integration technologies.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, machine learning APIs, automation platforms, and emerging technologies that can enhance institutional processes and user experiences.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in API/SDK development and integration
  • Experience working with Ellucian products, particularly Banner, in a higher education setting is preferred.
Please note: Candidates residing within 50 miles of WCTC are expected to work primarily on-site, with the opportunity for flexible work arrangements in accordance with WCTC's Work From Home policy. Candidates residing more than 50 miles from WCTC are eligible for remote work, provided they reside in an approved state: Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, or Minnesota, at the time of hire and maintain that residency throughout employment. Remote employees must be available for on-site team meetings, training, or project work as needed.


Salary
Salary will be determined based on relevant experience, and review of internal equity.
