Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager reports to the Corporate Controller and leads the day-to-day accounting operations and team. This hands-on leader owns an accurate, timely monthly close; maintains strong financial controls; ensures US GAAP-compliant reporting; and strengthens construction accounting practices, especially job costing. The role partners with operational leaders to improve financial visibility, consistency, and decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop accounting team members; set priorities, assign work, review output, and support training and cross-functional collaboration.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including close calendars, journal entries, account reconciliations, consolidations, and management review packages.
- Assist the Corporate Controller in the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
- Lead monthly WIP and construction contract accounting, including job costs, estimates to complete, projected margins, progress billings, retainage, change orders, contract assets and liabilities, and ASC 606 revenue recognition.
- Provide oversight of core accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and documentation; identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen data quality.
- Coordinate state and local tax compliance and support payroll tax administration, including multi-jurisdiction filings, reconciliations, notices, and issue resolution.
- Support annual audits, tax filings, budgets, forecasts, and other reporting requirements by serving as a key contact and preparing accurate schedules and documentation.
- Perform financial analysis and communicate clear insights to the Corporate Controller and business leaders; complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least five years of progressive accounting experience, including two or more years leading or directly managing team members.
- Extensive knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and the monthly close process.
- Hands-on state and payroll tax experience, with familiarity in multi-state registrations, sales and use tax, contractor exemptions, certified payroll, prevailing-wage requirements, union reporting, and related reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting or ERP systems.
- Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and explain financial information clearly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
