CITY OF KINGMAN
Work Schedule: Saturday - Tuesday, 7:45 am - 12:15 pm
The City of Kingman is seeking a dynamic, service-oriented individual to serve as a key ambassador at the Kingman Visitor Center tourist information desk and gift shop. This role delivers exceptional customer service by welcoming visitors, community members, and event participants while actively promoting local tourism, regional highlights, and travel itineraries. Key responsibilities include curating and distributing event information, providing comprehensive travel and directional guidance, handling gift shop transactions and cash management, and performing general clerical support—including updating calendar listings and maintaining departmental records.

Organized and reliable, you bring sharp attention to detail to daily office tasks, demonstrate strong basic math skills for accurate cash handling, and take pride in maintaining an orderly, welcoming atmosphere. As a versatile team player, you thrive on connecting with people from all walks of life, work well independently or collaboratively, and offer the flexibility needed to support community events and peak tourism schedules.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with specialized coursework in general office and administrative practices.
- One to two (1-2) years experience in performing administrative/office support in a customer service, information or tourism setting or equivalent experience.
- Considerable public contact and cash handling and reconciliation experience preferred.
- Use of computer and related software experience, preferably with Microsoft Office products (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, publications, presentations).
- Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain within three (6) months of hire.
- Fluency or proficiency in a second language is desired
Visitor Services & Destination Information (40%): Serves as the primary public ambassador for the local area, region, and state, with a strong emphasis on promoting local attractions, overnight stays, and Route 66 travel. Actively greets visitors and responds to in-person, phone, and online inquiries regarding local transportation, accommodations, weather, regional history, and hazardous road warnings. Delivers high-level customer service by offering tailored travel advice, distributing literature, conducting basic online research to answer travel questions, and systematically capturing visitor metrics via guest books and surveys.
Administrative Support & Data Management (25%): Executes core office operations and detailed recordkeeping to ensure organizational efficiency and data accuracy. Processes incoming, outgoing, and bulk mail, maintains electronic and manual filing systems, and continuously updates department databases, spreadsheets, and inquiry tracking logs. Additionally assists with composing, proofreading, and editing official documentation, preparing specialized informational packets, routing calls, and maintaining strict adherence to City policies, safety standards, and attendance requirements.
Gift Shop Operations & Facility Maintenance (20%): Manages retail operations and maintains a clean, inviting environment for incoming guests. Handles point-of-sale cashier duties by executing cash and credit card transactions, maintaining proper cash handling procedures, and balancing the register at the end of each shift. Supports retail logistics by receiving shipments, stocking display racks, and monitoring inventory levels. Concurrently conducts routine housekeeping duties—including sweeping, picking up trash, dusting, organizing displays, and locking/unlocking facilities—to keep the center safe and visually appealing.
Event Coordination & Marketing Support (15%): Provides active logistical and marketing assistance for community activities, departmental programs, and tourism initiatives. Maintains print and online event calendars, communicates with event organizers to mitigate scheduling conflicts, and distributes event information to selected publications and media outlets. Assists in designing marketing collateral such as flyers, brochures, tickets, and banners, while providing hands-on operational support for events through equipment setup, facility prep, and on-site assistance.
