Purpose
The School of Civic Leadership is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented student to provide business and administrative support to the Assistant Dean for Business Affairs and Chief Business Officer.
This position is ideal for a student who enjoys working with spreadsheets, data, and organizational projects and is interested in learning more about university business operations. No advanced finance or accounting experience is required. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with Excel or interested in developing stronger Excel skills, learns new systems quickly, pays close attention to detail, and is willing to help with a wide variety of projects.
Responsibilities
- Clean, organize, and update Excel spreadsheets and financial reports.
- Assist with data entry, routine reporting, and maintaining financial and administrative trackers.
- Learn UT financial systems and processes and assist with routine transactions, including account requests and expenditure transfers.
- Compile and organize information for reports and other business projects.
- Review spreadsheets, reports, and records for accuracy and completeness.
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic files.
- Create file folders, labels, binders, and other organizational materials.
- Print, scan, copy, assemble, and laminate materials.
- Provide backup reception coverage, including greeting visitors, answering the door, sorting mail, and other general office needs.
- Receive, organize, and occasionally move boxes, supplies, and materials.
- Assist the Assistant Dean for Business Affairs with other business, administrative, and organizational projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current UT Austin undergraduate student in good academic standing
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Dependable, organized, and able to follow through on assigned tasks
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets and data
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel or a strong interest in learning and developing Excel skills
- Ability to learn new systems and processes
- Comfortable performing both computer-based work and hands-on administrative tasks
- Willingness to assist with a wide variety of projects as needs arise
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Excel, including sorting, filtering, formulas, and organizing data
- Interest in business, accounting, finance, economics, data, or university administration
- Previous office, administrative, data-entry, or customer service experience
