Power BI Developer

Role Summary 

Avanade India’s Intelligence Data Platforms practice is looking for a Power BI Developer to build reports, dashboards, and semantic models as part of client data platform delivery engagements. This is a hands-on delivery role for someone who enjoys turning business requirements into clear, performant, and visually effective BI solutions, working closely with senior team members and data engineers. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Design and build Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic (data) models based on business requirements and design specifications. 

• Write and optimize DAX measures and calculations, and build efficient data models following star-schema/dimensional modeling principles. 

• Develop and maintain Power Query (M) transformations for data preparation and shaping. 

• Connect Power BI to various data sources, including Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Excel, and other enterprise systems. 

• Publish, schedule, and manage refreshes for reports and datasets in the Power BI Service; configure workspaces, apps, and basic row-level security. 

• Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business analysts to ensure reports are built on accurate, well-structured data. 

• Follow coding, naming, and visual design standards to ensure consistency and quality across deliverables. 

• Support testing, validation, and UAT of reports and dashboards with business stakeholders. 

• Troubleshoot report performance and data accuracy issues, escalating complex platform issues where needed. 

• Stay current with Power BI features and best practices, applying them to improve report quality and performance.

• 2–5 years of hands-on experience developing reports and dashboards in Power BI (Desktop and Service). 
• Strong working knowledge of DAX, data modeling (star schema, relationships), and Power Query (M language). 

• Working knowledge of SQL for data extraction, validation, and troubleshooting. 

• Experience connecting Power BI to enterprise data sources (Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Excel, or similar). 

• Understanding of report/dashboard design principles — layout, usability, and performance optimization. 

• Basic understanding of Power BI Service administration — workspaces, apps, gateways, and refresh scheduling. 

• Good communication skills to work with business stakeholders and translate requirements into BI solutions. 

Preferred / Good to Have 

• Microsoft certification: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300). 

• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Data Factory pipelines) as a data source for Power BI. 

• Basic exposure to Python or R for advanced analytics within Power BI. 

• Experience working across multiple industry domains (manufacturing, BFSI, consumer goods, energy, healthcare, or others). 

• Experience working in a global delivery / SI environment with distributed teams across geographies.
