What you’ll be doing

 

The Equity Analyst is a critical contributor to CIBC Global Asset Management’s (GAM) equity selection. You’ll cover the Canadian Telecom and Technology sectors. As a member of the Global Research team, you’ll report to the Head of Equity Research. You’ll conduct actionable, macro-aware investment research using rigorous financial modelling, valuation and industry analysis. You’ll work closely with equity portfolio managers, as well as credit and macro analysts. You’ll use AI to deepen your research, streamline workflows and update views more efficiently. Your recommendations will inform investment decisions across portfolio strategies (Core, Value, Income-Oriented, Quality and Growth).

How you’ll succeed

 

• Investment Recommendations — Develop clear, well-founded Overweight/Underweight recommendations for companies in the Canadian Telecom and Technology sectors, informed by a macro-aware assessment of the operating environment. Monitor company, industry and market developments, and engage with company management and industry sources. Provide timely, unbiased updates. Present concise research notes and industry reviews that support actionable investment theses.
• Stakeholder Engagement — Engage regularly with GAM portfolio managers and communicate recommendations clearly to ensure the best ideas are reflected in portfolios and, as appropriate, shared with clients and prospects.
•  Cross-Asset Collaboration — Collaborate across the equity team and with the Asset Allocation and Fixed Income teams to develop industry views, assess sector positioning, analyze companies, identify risks and deliver thematic research.
•  Research Execution and Tools — Maintain accurate financial models, earnings forecasts, valuation frameworks and ESG analysis on GAM’s research platform. Improve AI-enabled tools and workflows, and help develop future agent-orchestration capabilities to deepen insights and improve efficiency.
•  Accountability — Ensure recommendations reflect client investment policies and avoid breaches that could result in financial loss, lost business or reputational harm to CIBC.

•  Education. You have an undergraduate, graduate and/or postgraduate degree in management, finance, economics or a quantitative discipline.
•  You’re a certified professional. A CFA designation is preferred, or you are working toward one.
•  Technical skills. You are proficient in financial modelling, valuation and spreadsheet analysis, and you work effectively both independently and within a research team.
•  You champion AI. You embrace new AI capabilities, stay current on emerging practices and help the team adopt effective research tools and workflows.
•  Communication skills. You communicate complex ideas clearly in writing and verbally, tailoring your message to different audiences.
•  You influence investment decisions. You build conviction and persuade decision-makers through sound analysis across stock selection, investment strategy and compliance matters.
