Student Intern (Emergency Management)

Under the general supervision of the Emergency Management Coordinator, performs professional-level internship work in support of the City's Emergency Management Program. This position provides graduate students with practical, hands-on experience in municipal emergency management through participation in emergency planning, preparedness, mitigation, response, recovery, continuity of operations, public education, and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) readiness. The intern assists with research, planning initiatives, training, exercises, and operational projects while gaining exposure to local, county, state, and federal emergency management practices. The internship emphasizes professional development through mentorship, project-based learning, and real-world operational experience, culminating in the completion of a capstone project that provides lasting value to the City's Emergency Management Program.

Applicants must:

• Be currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program
• Be pursuing a Master of Science (M.S.) or Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Emergency Management, Disaster Management, Homeland Security, or a closely related discipline
• Maintain good academic standing
• Possess strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills
• Be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week throughout the internship

Preference may be given to applicants who possess:

• FEMA Independent Study Courses (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800)
• Strong technical writing and research skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with GIS (ArcGIS), Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or data visualization software
• Interest in public service and local government
