Principal Software Engineer — AI Platform & Modernization

Role Summary
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer who combines deep hands-on delivery skills with organization-wide technical leadership. This role sits at the intersection of feature delivery, platform ownership, and AI-led transformation.
You will own and deliver critical product features end-to-end while simultaneously shaping the architecture, modernization strategy, and AI adoption roadmap across the platform. This role requires a strong builder mindset—someone who can design systems, write production-grade code, unblock teams, and also influence long-term technical direction.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience working with enterprise-grade platforms built on AngularJS/Angular, C#/.NET, SQL Server, Entity Framework, and API-driven systems, and has demonstrated success modernizing such systems into scalable, event-driven, and AI-enabled architectures.
Key Responsibilities
1. AI & Innovation Leadership
Drive adoption of AI-first engineering practices across development workflows and product capabilities
Apply LLMs, Copilot, RAG architectures, and intelligent automation to accelerate feature delivery, testing, and code modernization
Identify practical opportunities to embed AI into core platform capabilities and business workflows
Establish guardrails and best practices for scalable, secure, and production-ready AI integration
2. Architecture & Platform Ownership
Define architecture for new features while ensuring alignment with long-term platform evolution
Evolve the system toward API-first, event-driven, and modular architectures
Design and enhance platform capabilities built on:
Web APIs, WebHooks
Background processing (WebJobs, Windows Services, workers)
Integration and data exchange layers
Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term scalability and maintainability
3. Feature Delivery & Hands-on Engineering
Own and deliver complex, high-impact features end-to-end, from design to production rollout
Write high-quality, maintainable code across backend and frontend layers where needed
Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to convert requirements into scalable solutions
Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across services, APIs, and data layers
Lead by example through hands-on contributions in critical paths
4. Modernization & Engineering Excellence
Drive modernization of enterprise applications built on the .NET + AngularJS platform
Refactor legacy patterns into clean, modular, testable components
Improve system reliability through better logging, monitoring, diagnostics, and observability
Introduce engineering best practices across:
Code quality and reviews
Testing strategies
Performance optimization
Production readiness
5. Organizational Influence & Mentorship
Mentor senior engineers and technical leads on system design, coding practices, and architecture
Influence technical decisions across multiple teams without direct authority
Establish reusable patterns, frameworks, and engineering standards
Act as a technical bridge between feature teams, platform teams, and leadership
Required Qualifications
- 17+ years of experience in software engineering, including significant hands-on development and architecture responsibilities
- Proven experience delivering complex enterprise features at scale, while contributing to system design and evolution
- Strong background in designing, building, and modernizing enterprise platforms
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a Principal Engineer / Lead Architect-level contributor
- Hands-on experience with AI-enabled development practices (e.g., Copilot, LLM integrations, automation)
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to debug and optimize across full-stack systems
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with ability to influence across teams
Core Technology Foundation
We are looking for a candidate with strong hands-on experience building and evolving enterprise platforms using the following technologies, and a track record of modernizing them toward scalable, API-driven, and AI-enabled systems:
Frontend Engineering
Experience with AngularJS and/or modern Angular, including evolving legacy UI architectures into modular, maintainable systems
Backend Engineering
Deep expertise in C#/.NET, including ASP.NET MVC and Web APIs, building scalable and maintainable backend services
Data Layer
Strong experience with SQL Server and Entity Framework, including schema design, query optimization, and transactional systems
Background Processing
Experience with Windows Services, WebJobs, and asynchronous processing patterns supporting enterprise workloads
Integration & APIs
Strong experience designing and building Web APIs, WebHooks, and event-driven systems
Observability & Reliability
Experience implementing logging, monitoring, and diagnostics frameworks such as ELMAH or equivalent
AI/ML & Future-Ready Expectations
Experience applying AI/ML techniques in software engineering or product development
Familiarity with:
LLMs and prompt-driven systems
RAG architectures and knowledge retrieval systems
AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, code assistants)
Ability to translate AI capabilities into practical engineering solutions and measurable impact
Strong interest in continuously evolving engineering practices using AI as a force multiplier
Optional / Preferred Technology Exposure
Experience with Java (Spring Boot) and related ecosystems for building microservices (preferred but not mandatory)
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and cloud-native architectures
Familiarity with microservices, containerization, and DevOps practices
Experience working with distributed systems and integration-heavy architectures
