Description
Under direction from the Team Leader and Superintendent, performs tasks for the repair, maintenance and installation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Maintain a safe work environment. Assist in fire flow tests as needed. Repair and install water and sewer mains as directed by the city engineer and utility superintendent. Be the main point of contact for a job site or work area. Keeps equipment in good working order.Essential Functions

- Perform heavy manual labor and equipment operation including loaders, backhoes, sewer jet and other equipment associated with the repair, maintenance and installation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Install, maintain and repair water distribution mains, laterals, valves, valve boxes, meter pits, meters, hydrants and pressure reducing valves. Locate water lines for excavation. Perform meter reading as needed.
- Install, maintain and repair wastewater mains, lines and laterals. Make taps for sanitary sewer services. Locate sewer mains for excavation contractors. Repair, test and maintain sewer lift stations and residential grinder pump systems.
- Operate and maintain all division equipment such as the Vactor and camera truck as assigned.
- Record pertinent data utilizing a computer or log book, maintenance records, bench sheets, etc. Analyze the information and compile reports using associated computer software.
- Assist in training while offering support and modeling high performance behavior for new teammates and seasonal workers as assigned.
- Actively participate in on-call rotation and response to after hours emergencies calls.
- Promote and maintain safe work practices during utility installation/maintenance, traffic control setup, work zone operations, equipment use, and right-of-way activities in accordance with City policies, applicable safety standards, MUTCD guidance, and accepted field practices.
- Assist and participate in performing tasks within other City Departments as needed or assigned.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Experience performing maintenance, public works operations, or construction work in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Working knowledge of water distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, and maintenance of those infrastructures.
- Ability to read and interpret basic maps and blueprints.
- Knowledge of standard construction practices relating to water systems and waste water collection preferred.
- This position is subject to non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- CCWP Level 2 certification in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection
- Must have the ability to obtain
- Current Colorado Class B Commercial Driver’s license, Tanker and Airbrake endorsements; must obtain within 90 days of start date; must have acceptable driving record.
- Traffic control Flagger certification
- Trench Safety certification
- Confined Space safety, entry and rescue certification
- PACP certificate for CCTV inspections of pipelines and manholes
- HDPE pipe fusion certificate by recognized entity
Requires ability to perform heavy manual labor. Strenuous physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds; frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer, and use of hands to handle small parts; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens. Requires driving and walking during inclement weather. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.Late applications will not be accepted.
