Description
The Communication Coordinator serves as the department's primary marketing and communications professional and works closely with program coordinators, supervisors, community organizations, and city departments to increase public awareness and participation.
- Develop and implement annual marketing and communication plans.
- Create promotional campaigns for recreation programs, special events, athletics, aquatics, senior services, parks, and community initiatives.
- Produce brochures, flyers, newsletters, advertisements, banners, and other marketing materials.
- Maintain consistent department branding across all communications.
- Develop communication timelines for seasonal program guides and major events.
- Digital Communications Manage and update the department website.
- Create engaging social media content across multiple platforms.
- Monitor social media interactions and respond to public inquiries.
- Develop digital advertising campaigns. Assist with public presentations and community meetings.
- Promote community surveys and public input opportunities.
- Design: Seasonal program guides, Event posters and flyers
- Coordinate event signage and promotional materials. Support staff communication initiatives.
- Develop communication templates and branding standards.
- Event Support: Assist with planning and promoting special events.
- Represent the department at community events and outreach activities.
- Prepare monthly communication reports.
- Oversee event permitting applications and coordination.
- Recommend improvements based on data analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, Recreation Administration, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field.
- Valid driver's license.
Occupational/Technical Skill Set
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Google Analytics, Recreation management software (e.g., CivicRec, RecDesk, ActiveNet, or similar)
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
