Description

Introduction

Are you ready to shape the future of Transaction Services operations across ING Wholesale Banking? As Head of WB COO Transaction Services, you will set the global operations strategy for Daily Banking, Client Services and Trade, translating ING's AI-first ambition into operational excellence, transformation and scalable delivery for 5,000 segmented clients.

The team

You will join the Wholesale Banking COO organization, a global operations and transformation organization supporting ING Wholesale Banking worldwide with an AI-first strategy. The organization delivers operational excellence, digital transformation, scalable operations, client onboarding, operational risk management and facility management capabilities that support ING's strategic ambitions.

You will lead the WB COO Transaction Services domain, covering Daily Banking, including payments, Client Services and Trade. The domain brings together client, transaction and trade operations and is accountable for operational excellence, process ownership, service performance, transformation execution and scalable delivery across the full product suite.

Transaction Services is at the heart of ING's Wholesale Banking franchise, supporting corporate and institutional clients across our global network. ING is recognized as a top-3 transaction bank in the Eurozone. Transaction Services includes:

  • Payments & Cash Management, routing payments and collections so clients can pay salaries, suppliers and taxes and receive customer payments
  • Liquidity Management, helping clients optimize domestic and international flows
  • Working Capital Solutions, helping clients improve the cash conversion cycle
  • Trade Finance Solutions, supporting clients with documentary trade requirements

We operate in a rapidly changing environment where technology, regulation and the macroeconomic landscape evolve quickly. Across our global network in 27 countries, we collaborate intensively to deliver relevant and innovative solutions for our clients.

The role reports hierarchically to the WB COO and functionally to the WB Head of Transaction Services. You are a member of both the WB COO Management Team and the WB Transaction Services Management Team. You lead seven direct reports and approximately 50 hierarchical indirect reports, while providing functional direction across Daily Banking and Client Services, approximately 700 colleagues, and Trade, approximately 400 colleagues.

Roles and responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Set the global WB COO strategy for Daily Banking, Client Services and Trade, contribute to the overall WB COO strategy, and ensure implementation across the full product chain, regions, hubs and expert teams.
  • Drive global operations at product level and steer the Operations Leads for Payments & Cash Management, Trade and Client Services on delivery, workforce management and capability development.
  • Act as the main COO sparring partner for the WB Global Head of Transaction Services and as a senior strategic partner to the WB COO leadership team across the full product suite.
  • Ensure Transaction Services operations comply with regulatory requirements and are supported by effective operational risk management and reporting.
  • Embed the AI-first strategy across the full product suite by partnering with AI experts and steering the introduction and continuous development of agents, models and standards.
  • Lead and develop the senior management team, building an engaged, well-utilized and future-ready global workforce.
  • Manage a complex international stakeholder landscape spanning the WB COO and Transaction Services management teams, product domains, countries, Risk, FCFP, Delivery, Transformation, regulators, external experts and consultants.

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you'll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we'll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

  • A Master's degree in Economics or a comparable field.
  • At least 15 years of experience in senior management roles, combined with a thorough and current understanding of the COO agenda and strong expertise in Daily Banking, Client Services and Trade.
  • Proven ability to set strategy and translate it into execution across a large, complex and globally distributed operations organization.
  • A transformation mindset, with the ambition and credibility to act as an AI adopter and frontrunner.
  • Strong, energetic and adaptable executive leadership, combined with excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • An approachable yet constructively critical leadership style, with the ability to balance strategic direction, execution, risk, workforce and product priorities.

We value leadership impact and adaptability as much as strict checklist experience. If your background aligns with the core vision of this role, even if you don't tick every single bullet point, we strongly encourage you to apply. Tell us in your application or cover note what unique perspective and track record you'll bring to the team.
