Description
We are hiring a part-time Machine Mechanic to keep our 2019 SMIPack shrink wrapper running safely and reliably. You will own preventive maintenance, troubleshoot breakdowns, make adjustments and changeovers, and keep the line's downtime low. This role suits an experienced packaging or industrial mechanic who wants steady part-time hours.
Key responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on the SMIPack shrink wrapper and heat tunnel per the manufacturer's manual: lubrication, belt and chain inspection, sealing-bar and blade checks, and cleaning.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults, including conveyors, film feed and unwind, sealing jaws, heating elements, sensors, and drives.
- Diagnose alarms and faults using the machine's PLC and touchscreen (HMI); adjust settings for temperature, speed, timing, and film tension.
- Perform product and film changeovers and fine-tune the machine for wrap quality (tight, clean seals; no burns, tears, or loose film).
- Replace worn parts such as Teflon tape, sealing wire or blades, belts, bearings, rollers, and heating elements.
- Keep a spare-parts inventory and order parts from SMIPack or approved suppliers.
- Log all maintenance, repairs, downtime, and parts used.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and all plant safety procedures; keep guards and safety interlocks in working order.
- Train operators on basic upkeep, safe operation, and first-level troubleshooting.
- Help with other packaging or production equipment as needed.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years maintaining industrial packaging or production equipment.
- Hands-on experience with shrink wrappers, L-sealers, sleeve wrappers, or similar packaging machines.
- Solid mechanical skills: drives, gearboxes, chains, belts, bearings, and alignment.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics and basic industrial electrical (motors, sensors, relays, heaters).
- Ability to read schematics, manuals, and parts diagrams.
- Comfortable troubleshooting from PLC/HMI alarm screens.
- Own basic hand tools and a multimeter.
- Reliable, able to work independently, and good at keeping records
