The Loudoun County Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue is seeking a dedicated, experienced professional to serve as Taxpayer Services Supervisor II. Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner of the Personal Property Division, this position oversees the Personal Property Tax Assessment and Compliance Specialist teams, as well as tax assessment, compliance, and appeal functions.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional who can build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, County officials, members of the business community and their representatives, and the public. The role requires the ability to manage a high-volume workload, collaborate with management, support internal and external customers, resolve conflicts, and apply state law, County ordinances, agency guidance, and case law to specific situations.

Tax Assessment and Compliance Responsibilities
• Oversee vehicle personal property tax assessments and conduct complex, supervisory-level tax account reviews.
• Ensure taxation is accurate, fair, and equitable and complies with applicable precedents and federal, state, and local laws.
• Perform tax compliance work and use discovery methods to ensure all vehicles are included on the tax rolls.
• Conduct field visits as needed and work directly with vehicle owners to gather information.
• Explain proper filing procedures and local tax obligations.
• Assist vehicle owners with state and local registration requirements and help taxpayers resolve compliance issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities
• Lead a team of Tax Assessors and Compliance Specialists.
• Plan, organize, and assign work; review performance and evaluate completed work.
• Recommend staff selections and support onboarding.
• Train employees and promote their professional development.
• Administer corrective action when necessary.

Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, public administration, accounting, or a related field and four years of related work experience, including at least two years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Virginia local personal property taxation.
• Familiarity with vehicle personal property tax assessments.
• Customer service experience.
• Local tax compliance experience.
• Master Deputy Certification.
The successful candidate must complete criminal background, credit, and DMV record checks. All applicants seeking employment with the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue are expected to remain current with their tax obligations; failure to do so may affect consideration of an application. Maintain a valid driver’s license issued by Virginia or the applicant’s regional state of residence. Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
