We are seeking a talented individual to join our Accounting Operations team at Marsh. This role will be based in Pavilion Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
Staff Accountant II
This role supports the accurate and timely processing of payments across the business. Beyond day-to-day payment operations, this role plays an important part in resolving operational issues, supporting internal and external audit activities, and ensuring adherence to established financial controls and procedures. The successful candidate will work closely with the team and manager to strengthen operational efficiency, address escalations and support continuous process improvements.
We will count on you to:
- Perform and support daily payment operations, including manual payment processing through e-banking platforms, ensuring transactions are completed accurately and within agreed turnaround times.
- Review payment requests and transactions to ensure compliance with established procedures, internal controls and approval requirements.
- Investigate payment-related discrepancies, rejected transactions, process exceptions and other operational issues by gathering relevant information, identifying potential causes and recommending appropriate solutions.
- Provide support to the manager in handling escalations, including conducting preliminary investigations and presenting findings or proposed resolutions for further action.
- Act as a key support for internal and external audit activities, including preparing audit documentation, coordinating supporting evidence and facilitating end-to-end process walkthroughs.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of payment processes and internal controls, with the ability to clearly explain procedures, control measures and supporting documentation to auditors and stakeholders.
- Assist team members in resolving operational challenges, ensuring timely follow-up and minimising disruption to daily payment activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant corporate policies, carrier agreements, SOX procedures, applicable tax regulations, local and US GAAP requirements, and other statutory regulations, where applicable.
- Support the development and implementation of internal accounting procedures, process improvements and operational transitions involving onshore and offshore teams.
- Demonstrate accountability, a sense of urgency and a proactive approach to managing priorities, particularly when addressing time-sensitive transactions and escalations.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent qualifications.
- Ideally 3–5 years of relevant working experience in Accounts Payable, payment processing, treasury operations or a related accounting function.
- Practical experience supporting internal and/or external audits, including audit preparation, process walkthroughs, responding to auditor enquiries and preparing supporting documentation.
- Good understanding of payment processes, financial controls, operational procedures and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate issues, understand their underlying causes and recommend appropriate actions.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned responsibilities and provide effective support to the manager and wider team.
- Good command of written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, stakeholders and auditors.
What makes you stand out:
- Previous experience working in an MNC or shared services environment, particularly within a regional accounting or payment operations team.
- Hands-on exposure to corporate e-banking platforms, manual payment processing and payment authorization procedures.
- Proven experience independently coordinating audit walkthroughs, explaining end-to-end operational processes and responding confidently to auditor enquiries.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, particularly in identifying process gaps, investigating payment issues and proposing practical solutions.
- A proactive and collaborative approach, with the confidence to take initiative, support colleagues and assist management with operational challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across different teams and business functions.
- Adaptability, willingness to learn and a continuous improvement mindset.
