- Start Date: August 2026 for the 26/27 school year
- Hours: Full-time (7 hours/day)
- Grade Levels: K-12 students
- Credentials: IL PEL with Teacher of the Visually Impaired endorsement
- Compensation: Starting at $45/hour (commensurate with experience)
- Location: Various School Locations in Kane and Will Counties in Illinois - Onsite Only

Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our dynamic team at E-Therapy. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, empowering them to access the curriculum and achieve academic success.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments of students' functional vision, visual functioning, and educational needs to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and instructional goals.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in the areas of braille literacy, adaptive technology, orientation and mobility, and daily living skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to adapt and modify curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with visual impairments.
- Teach students compensatory skills, such as tactile discrimination, spatial awareness, and auditory processing, to enhance their independence and participation in educational activities.
- Utilize assistive technology and adaptive equipment to facilitate students' access to the curriculum and promote their independence in the classroom and school environment.
- Provide consultation and training to school staff, parents, and caregivers on strategies for supporting students with visual impairments in educational and social settings.
- Monitor students' progress, collect data on skill acquisition, and adjust instruction and interventions as needed to promote optimal outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress, assessment results, instructional plans, and communication with families and educational team members.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or Special Education with a focus on visual impairments.
- Current state licensure or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
- Proficiency in braille literacy, including knowledge of braille code, instruction, and assessment.
- Strong understanding of visual impairments, including low vision, blindness, and related disabilities, and their impact on learning and development.
- Experience working with students with visual impairments in educational settings, preferably in PreK-12 schools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, school staff, and related service providers.
- Proficiency in assessment, curriculum adaptation, and instructional strategies for students with visual impairments.
- Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment for individuals with visual impairments (preferred).

Physical Requirements (Working in a School Setting):
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and move around in various areas of the school facility. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents both verbally and in writing. The employee may need to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and may occasionally be required to bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Additionally, the employee must have the physical stamina to supervise and engage with students throughout the school day.
