Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor of Technical Services & Maintenance Contracts, the Seasonal Technical Services employee provides temporary operational and field support to assist with the delivery and administration of various municipal maintenance contracts, Road Occupancy inspections and permits, and Municipal Consent issuance.

The role supports field inspections, contractor coordination, documentation, and customer service related to assigned maintenance contracts to help ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, and service expectations.

Job Duties Include

The following responsibilities and duties of this position includes but are not limited to:

Maintenance Contracts Support:

• Provide seasonal support for the administration and delivery of curb cutting contract,  and other related operational programs, as required.

• Assist with monitoring contractor(s) activities to ensure work progresses  in accordance with contract requirements, specifications, and schedules.

• Support contract(s) compliance by identifying deficiencies and reporting issues to supervisory staff.

Field Inspections & Documentation

• Conduct routine field inspections and maintain records to identified deficiencies.

• Collect and record inspection data, including notes, measurements, and digital photographs.

Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination

• Communicate with Town’s contractor(s), utility companies and their respective contractors  regarding deficiencies and restoration. 

• Assist in responding to resident inquiries related to maintenance contract activities.

• Coordinate with internal staff and other departments to support day‑to‑day maintenance operations throughout the season.

Maintenance and Road Occupancy Permit ‑ Related Technical Support

• Assist with curb cutting application reviews, road occupancy‑related works and restoration inspections.

• Support in‑field measurements, curb cut mark‑ups, and verification tasks to help confirm quantities and work completion.

General Seasonal Support

• Maintain organized records and documentation related to inspections and maintenance contract activities.

• Follow all applicable health and safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.

• Perform other seasonal duties related to maintenance contracts and technical services support, as assigned. 

Qualifications/Skills

• Education in civil engineering technology is required;

• Relevant experience in civil engineering and field inspections;

• Ability to read engineering drawings;

• Ability to understand the Highway Traffic Act and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;

• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships;

• Effective communication skills (both verbal and written);

• Good time management skills and organization skills;

• Ability to work with limited supervision and as part of a team;

• Superior computer skills relating to Microsoft Word and Excel;

• Valid Class G driver's license in good standing and clear driver’s abstract;

• Ability to provide a current Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to the Town of Ajax, upon being hired.
   

What is Offered to Staff:

• Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.

• Hours of Work: This is a unionized position that works a 40 hour work week in varying weather conditions.  The regular hours of work are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. 

• Duration of Employment: This seasonal role works up to 150 days per year, typically from April through the end of November. Please note that the exact timeline is based on the operational needs of the department and the candidate’s start date.

• Probationary Period:  Seasonal Employees are required to complete a six (6) month probationary period and if the probation is successful, then the Seasonal Employees will be invited to return in subsequent seasons.
