Why this role exists
In finance, law, consulting, technology and most professional careers, a lot still depends on who you know. Generation Success opens doors into these careers for students who don’t have a contact inside.
The invitation works best when it comes from someone on your own course. That’s what an ambassador is: the person who brings the invitation.
Is this for you?
You’re at one of the universities listed below and you’re curious about a professional career, whether that’s finance, accountancy, consulting, law or technology. You don’t need to have picked one. Maybe you don’t know anyone who works in that world yet. If you’ve ever looked at a big firm and wondered whether people like you get in, this role was written for you.
What you get
- Your own mentor, someone working in the professional world, for the length of the role
- Priority places at our Open Your Doors Days, where you spend a day inside firms such AlixPartners, Cubico Investments, SAP
- Training in outreach and customer service, skills employers look for
- Our careers training, including how to use AI in your job search
- A seat in employer focus groups, where firms ask students what they want
- A group of ambassadors from other universities, meeting online once a term
- A reference after six months, and a certificate stating your hours and what you did
- A way to stay involved after the role ends, and to become a mentor yourself once you’re working
What you’ll do
You’ll be Generation Success’s person on campus. In about four hours a month, you’ll:
- Share mentoring and career opportunities in your course and society group chats, so students who would never hear about them do
- Once a term, introduce us to a society or your careers team. We can do the talking if you’d rather
- With training and support from us, help start conversations with local businesses about our work. It’s an early taste of client development, which professional services firms rely on
- Tell us what students on your campus actually want, so we build the right things
What you need
- To be a student at a university in Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, York, Sheffield, Manchester, Hull, Durham, Teesside, Newcastle or Liverpool, aged 18 to 30
- An interest in a professional career, such as finance, accountancy, consulting, law or technology, even if you’re still working out which
- To be able to work in the UK without a visa
What you don’t need
You don’t need experience of promoting events or working with employers. You don’t need any particular degree subject. You don’t need contacts in the industry either. If you don’t know anyone who works in finance, that isn’t a gap. It means you understand the students we’re trying to reach.
How it works
Apply through a five-minute form, with no CV. If you’re shortlisted, we’ll have a 20-minute informal video call in late November. Everyone hears back by Friday 4 December 2026, whether or not they’re selected.
We can’t cover travel to events. If that’s a problem, tell us on the form and we’ll point you to online sessions or events closer to you. If you need anything else to take part, tell us on the form or email [email protected].

After you submit, you’ll get an email confirming we have your application.
