ROLE PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations within a food manufacturing plant. This role ensures that all machinery, equipment, and facilities are maintained in optimal working condition to support production efficiency and safety standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise Maintenance Team:
- Lead a team of maintenance technicians in maintenance activities and machine repair.
- Train maintenance employees on proper work methods and safety procedures.
Maintenance Systems:
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of maintenance systems, processes and documentation, scheduling and follow-up of all maintenance activities.
- Ensure all necessary facilities systems are kept in reliable working condition and that they meet any required customer and regulatory specifications.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Ensure maintenance is scheduled in a timely manner and works closely with Production team to schedule and accomplish equipment and facility repairs.
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Provide long-term solutions and day-to-day support to operating teams having issues with troubleshooting, problem analysis, equipment failures, etc.
Compliance:
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with food safety regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
Documentation:
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment logs, and maintenance schedules.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance plant efficiency and reliability.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring availability for timely repairs and maintenance.
Budget Management:
- Assist in the management of the maintenance budget, controlling costs while maintaining high standards of operation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/ CAPABILITY PROFILE
Minimum Education
- High School diploma or equivalent; Technical degree or certification in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance preferred.
Minimum Experience
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing facility with high-speed packaging equipment, motor controls and electronics is strongly preferred.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in facilities management (HVAC, process safety management, building and grounds maintenance).
- 1 to 3 years’ previous leadership experience.
Minimum Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- Ability to lead resource planning efforts in a manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of maintenance systems, work order processes, TPM, inventory and scheduling software.
- Strong leadership skills (conflict resolution, change management skills, decision making, empowerment and delegation).
- Ability to lead problem solving and troubleshooting efforts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good planning and priority setting skills.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
- Advanced technical skills in boiler, compressed air, mechanical and electrical fields (e.g. PLCs, instrumentation, mechanical engineering, etc.) are desired.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
