Hiring Unit:  School of Social Work

The School of Social Work is seeking one course lecturer (MCLIU – unionized) for the following course:


SWRK 535:  Addictions

Term:  Winter 2027

Course Dates:  January 5 – April 14, 2027.

Schedule:  Mondays, 5:35-8:25.

Rate:  $11 824.00 per course.

 

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

  • MSW degree or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated work in the area addictions and mental health.

 

Demonstrated practical application of, and/or teaching experience in, the following areas:

  • Relevant empirical and theoretical literatures related to addiction with particular focus on addiction, particularly as it impacts specific geographic, social, and economic communities.
  • Critical analysis of multiple approaches to treating addiction.
  • Understanding and implementation of ethical standards with regarding to working with individuals, families and communities facing addiction.
  • Key concepts, definitions and perspectives related to working with clients with addictions.
  • Issues related to dual diagnoses with clients with addictions Demonstrated in‐depth knowledge of the following:
  • Transdisciplinary models used to explain substance abuse and addiction
  • Intergenerational effects of addiction
  • Analysis of the impact of colonization and governmental policies on addiction in Indigenous communities today
  • Knowledge of the local and regional resources available for addressing addiction.
