About Fitness & Lifestyle Group
Fitness & Lifestyle Group (FLG) is Asia Pacific's largest group of corporately owned health and wellness clubs — 310+ locations, 600,000+ members, and five of the region's most recognised fitness brands: Fitness First Australia, Goodlife Health Clubs, Jetts Fitness, Zap Fitness and Barry's.
We're headquartered in Australia with regional offices across South East Asia, and we're on a mission to help our global community live stronger, happier lives.
The Opportunity
Fitness & Lifestyle Group (FLG) is looking for an Accountant to join our collaborative team, where you’ll play an important role in delivering accurate financial outcomes and supporting continuous improvement across a complex and evolving organisation.
As an Accountant, you’ll play an important role in supporting the Group Finance team across financial accounting, compliance, reporting and month-end activities. From preparing journals and reconciliations to supporting external reporting, audit and continuous improvement initiatives, you’ll have the opportunity to build your commercial accounting experience while working alongside a supportive and experienced team.
This is a 12-month contract opportunity, providing an exciting chance for an experienced Accountant — or someone making their first move from public practice — to broaden their experience in a commercial environment. With ongoing improvement and new processes across Finance, there will be plenty of opportunity to learn, contribute and make an impact.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)
- Own key month-end accounting activities, including preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and adjustments, while reviewing allocated general ledger accounts.
- Maintain the integrity of financial records through accurate and timely Balance Sheet reconciliations and general ledger management, in line with accounting standards and internal policies.
- Support financial reporting and analysis, including monthly, annual and ad hoc reporting, as well as analysis of actual results against budget and forecast.
- Contribute to technical accounting and compliance, including activities relating to AASB 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers and AASB 16 Leases, along with BAS, FBT and ABS reporting.
- Support audit, inventory and fixed asset accounting, including external audit preparation, stock reconciliations and the capitalisation of fixed assets from Work in Progress.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships, partnering with Finance, Procurement, Analysts, Club and Support Office teams, as well as external stakeholders, to resolve queries and deliver accurate outcomes within deadlines.
- Drive continuous improvement and change, identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and supporting the Finance team through the transition to Workday and other evolving processes.
About You
You’re a proactive and collaborative accounting professional who takes pride in getting the detail right while understanding the bigger picture. You bring a positive, can-do attitude, strong communication skills and a genuine willingness to learn. You enjoy working with people, taking ownership of your work and are confident in managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Whether you’re an experienced or Assistant Accountant ready for your next step, or making your first move from public practice, you’ll bring energy, initiative and a desire to contribute to a high-performing team.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years’ experience in a comparable Accountant, commercial finance or public practice role.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent qualification
- Completed prerequisite subjects for future enrolment in CPA/CA Program
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end accounting processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles, with the ability to apply accounting knowledge to practical business situations.
- Experience working with or exposure to Balance Sheet reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, report building, formulas, formatting and data validation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with a willingness to learn new systems, processes and ways of working.
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to IFRS 15 Revenue Recognition and/or IFRS 16 Leases.
- Experience supporting external audit processes.
- Experience working in a commercial accounting environment or within a larger, complex organisation.
- Exposure to Workday or other ERP systems.
- Enrolled or partially completed CPA/CA Program
- Experience with financial reporting, compliance reporting, inventory or fixed asset accounting.
