About Piping Technology & Products (PT&P)
Founded in 1978 and based in Houston, TX, Piping Technology & Products, Inc. manufactures engineered pipe supports and other piping system products for power, refining, chemical, and related industries. PT&P combines in-house manufacturing capabilities with technical expertise to help customers keep critical infrastructure running safely and efficiently.
Position Summary
Piping Technology & Products, Inc. is seeking two Sales Engineers to deliver technical presentations for our pipe support product lines. Each Sales Engineer will explain product capabilities and customer-specific applications to client engineers, procurement teams, plant operations personnel, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners.
This role works closely with Sales, Engineering, and Estimating to support technical discussions and sales opportunities. Through structured training and mentorship, each hire is expected to independently lead client presentations within six months.
What You Will Do
• Deliver technical presentations at client meetings, EPC offices, trade shows, and conferences in the United States and internationally.
• Tailor presentations to customer needs, explaining product selection, thermal movement, load ratings, and other application considerations in clear terms.
• Build and update presentation materials with guidance from Sales and Engineering; accurately communicate product capabilities and limitations.
• Answer technical questions within the scope of training and coordinate with Engineering on complex application or design questions.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Estimating to support technical content for proposals and requests for quotation (RFQs).
• Maintain current knowledge of spring hangers, pipe shoes, guides, anchors, snubbers, and related expansion joint systems.
• Travel to customer sites and industry events, participate in plant walk-downs as needed, and follow company and customer safety requirements.
• Track presentation activity, customer questions, and follow-up needs; coordinate timely responses with internal teams.
Who You Are
• Hold a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• Communicate clearly and confidently with technical and nontechnical audiences; demonstrate strong verbal presentation and client-facing communication skills.
• Understand engineering fundamentals relevant to thermal expansion, piping stress, loads, and support selection, with the ability to apply them through product training.
• Be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally approximately 30–50% of the time after training, including on short notice when required.
• Have a valid passport or be able to obtain one before starting or within 90 days of hire, in preparation for international assignments. Must also be TWIC eligible. The company will provide fee costs.
• Learn technical products quickly, prepare organized presentation materials, and work effectively with mentors and cross-functional teams.
Training and Development
A six-month development plan combines product training, supervised presentations, and travel. Each phase includes mentor check-ins; employees may advance early when ready.
Month 1: Complete company, product, safety, and travel-policy orientation; shadow Sales and Engineering; begin product self-study with an assigned sales engineering mentor.
Months 2–3: Complete internal product and applications training, review piping engineering fundamentals, observe client calls and presentations, and develop a presentation deck under mentor review.
Months 3–4: Co-present at customer meetings and trade shows, answer basic technical questions, support proposal and RFQ content, and begin domestic travel with senior team members.
Months 5–6: Lead presentations with mentor backup, complete an initial paired international trip, and obtain readiness sign-off from Sales and Engineering leadership.
Key Metrics of Success
• Within six months, lead at least three client presentations; complete one paired trip without major technical corrections; pass a final technical Q&A review; and receive Sales leadership approval for independent client engagement.
• Meet presentation activity expectations established by Sales leadership following training.
• Respond promptly to lead and RFQ presentation requests and deliver accurate technical information.
• Earn positive feedback from Sales leadership and key accounts on presentation quality and client communication.
