Description

The CSIS Executive Protection Event Operations Manager is a senior-level security professional responsible for leading Citi's event security program within the Corporate Security & Investigative Services (CSIS) Executive Protection function. This role serves as the principal authority for assessing, planning, and executing security measures for Citi-hosted, Citi-branded, and Citi-attended events globally, ensuring the safety of senior executives, employees, clients, and Citi's institutional interests across all event contexts.

Operating at the intersection of executive protection, risk intelligence, and event operations, this role applies a structured, risk-based methodology to evaluate each event's threat profile and determine the appropriate protective response — from early-stage notification through post-event review. The Event Operations Manager functions as a trusted advisor to event sponsors, organizing functions, and senior stakeholders, and serves as the primary coordinator between CSIS, internal business partners, and external security entities.

The role is accountable for ensuring that protective measures are proportionate, timely, and consistent with Citi's global security standards, and that CSIS's event security framework continuously evolves in response to the changing threat landscape.

● Flexibility to work on-call, off hours, weekends, and holidays as event schedules require

● Domestic and international travel required, including to elevated-risk locations, sometimes on short notice

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and organize comprehensive security plans for executive-level meetings, travel, residences, and general daily movements
  • Assist in the creation of Protective Services policy and processes
  • Advance locations and complete site surveys for potential threats, ease of access and departure and understand the location to provide and apply an appropriate protective strategy
  • Continually identify, evaluate, and monitor enterprise risks that could affect business activities, and provide EP team the information they need to make critical decisions
  • Ensure reconnaissance of locations on the travel itinerary for designated executives are conducted to identify potential risks and countermeasures to mitigate the risk
  • Maintain personal profiles and conduct risk assessments of all personnel providing protective service and determine travel support needs including coordination of flight operations, visiting country entry/exit visas and COVID-19 protocols
  • Perform logistical support for the Executive's movements by coordinating with hosts, staff, drivers, and others to ensure a seamless and consistent application of protective security measures
  • Participate in professional forums and maintain current with trends, actions, and issues with emphasis on terrorism, criminal threats, workplace violence, political instability, civil conflicts and developments in the executive protection field
  • Prepare written after action reports and apply lessons learned
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years relevant experience in a private/public sector security environment
  • Professional Security certifications
  • Experience working in a corporate or financial services security team
  • Former Law Enforcement, Military or Government Agent
  • Executed efficiently under tight time constraints
  • Proven ability to foster relationships and interface with external agencies to promote functional excellence
  • Experience in promoting a culture of a strong security risk and control environment
  • Demonstrated a broad understanding of security vulnerabilities and crisis principles
  • Articulated an understanding of potential security or safety threats, local threats based on geographic location and their impact
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of risk management and innovatively develops solutions and makes suggestions to senior management to mitigate risks
  • Experience with planning and organization of complex and variable projects
  • Experience in an Executive Protection logistics position
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, & SharePoint - demonstrated creativity in use of these products to provide operational support and solutions
  • Ability to work independently and to adapt to various work-paces while always maintaining a high-level of attentiveness and energy
  • Provide support to obtain EP team country entry/exit visas and COVID-19 entry requirements
  • Experience working with C Suite Executive Assistant and support staff
  • Excellent communications and diplomacy skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree plus equivalent work experience

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in adhering current security protocols, operations manuals, and guides
  • Demonstrated experience in making sound judgements at a moment’s notice
  • Has maintained corporate assets, to include lease vehicles and equipment in a state of perpetual readiness enough to meet or surpass requirements
  • Can articulate basic understanding of security vulnerabilities and suggests preventative measures to assist in the mitigation of these potential risks
  • Demonstrated ability to follow security and safety instructions and procedures; reporting anything out of the ordinary to management and obey rules and regulations set out in delegations of duty, verbal instructions and company policies
  • Open-source intelligence and threat intelligence expertise
  • 2nd language skills

Event Risk Assessment & CSIS Notification Management

  • Manage the CSIS Event Security Notification process, ensuring event sponsors and organizing functions engage CSIS early in the planning cycle — prior to venue finalization or external commitments
  • Evaluate event notifications against established intake criteria
  • Conduct formal risk assessments using the event security risk methodology, evaluating threat environment, venue characteristics, attendance profile, visibility, and Citi brand exposure
  • Determine the level and nature of CSIS involvement based on pervasive risk and Citi's perceived threat exposure for each event
  • Maintain an active registry of pending, in-progress, and completed event security assessments

Event-Centric Executive Protection Planning

  • Design and execute event-centric executive protection strategies — time-bound, activity-focused protective plans calibrated to the specific risk characteristics of each event, including visibility, attendance, location, threat environment, and Citi brand association
  • Apply event-centric protection across operational modes; develop event-specific security plans
  • Ensure all protective measures are proportionate to assessed risk and conclude with the event's risk window

Operational Coordination & Execution

  • Serve as the operational lead for event security execution, coordinating logistics across internal CSIS teams, contracted security resources, venue security, and external agencies
  • Coordinate with CSIS anchors security and intelligence to obtain current threat intelligence, country/city risk profiles, and situational awareness relevant to each event
  • Manage on-site security operations during events, including command presence at high-risk engagements as required
  • Coordinate with event organizers, facilities, executive administrative support, and business partners to ensure seamless integration of security measures within the event environment
  • Oversee access control operations, credentialing, and perimeter management in alignment with the event security plan

Stakeholder Advisory & Engagement

  • Function as the primary CSIS subject matter expert and advisor on event security for internal business partners, event sponsors, senior leadership, and Citi lines of business
  • Educate and guide organizing functions on CSIS notification requirements, event security expectations, and their respective responsibilities throughout the planning process
  • Maintain strong working relationships with external partners, including venue security managers, contracted security vendors, hospitality security teams, and local law enforcement liaisons
  • Represent CSIS in cross-functional planning meetings and security briefings related to major events
  • Participate in professional forums and industry networks to maintain current awareness of trends in executive protection, event security, terrorism, threat actor activity, and geopolitical developments

Reporting, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare comprehensive after-action reports for all significant events, documenting protective measures deployed, incidents or anomalies encountered, and lessons learned
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of event risk assessments, security plans, and operational outcomes
  • Analyze event security trends and threat data to identify opportunities to enhance the event security risk methodology and operational playbooks
  • Track and report on event security program activity, including volume, risk distribution, and resource utilization, for CSIS leadership review

Executive Protection Global Operations & Logistical Support

  • Provide support to the global executive protection program ensuring continuity of executive protective services during periods of absence, surge demand, or operational necessity
