Description
You'll run the business in Angola. Not a region, not a set of stores, the whole country business: operations, growth, people, suppliers, and the P&L. Our head office enablement teams in South Africa back you remotely, but on the ground, the calls are yours. When things go wrong - a supply disruption, political unrest - you'll need to move fast and stay level-headed.
If you've spent years in QSR or food and beverage management, know how Angola actually works, its laws, its people, its market, and want to build something rather than maintain it, read on.
WHAT THE JOB ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
- Run great stores. Keep daily operations tight - SOPs, food safety, hygiene - so every store delivers the same positive experience. Watch customer feedback and market trends, and act on them.
- Own the numbers. You're accountable for the P&L. Track margins and unit economics, and keep repairs and maintenance within budget.
- Grow the footprint. Find high-potential sites, work through permits and regulations, and partner with our Head Office Development team on new store projects.
- Make the brand local. Work with Head Office marketing to shape campaigns, activations, and digital so they land with Angolan customers.
- Keep the supply moving. Manage supplier relationships, enforce contracts, and coordinate logistics.
- Build your team. Lead development, training, and succession planning, and keep the business compliant with labour law and HR policy.
- Manage risk and relationships. Stay on the right side of health, safety, and regulatory requirements, and work with licensing, statutory, and regulatory bodies as well as head office and regional teams.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
You'll negotiate for win/win outcomes, read people well, and work comfortably across cultures, and you'll do much of it in Portuguese, so you'll need to speak and read it.
- 8 - 10 years of QSR or food and beverage management experience
- Experience across the areas above - operations, P&L, expansion, supply chain, and people
- Solid knowledge and understanding of Angolan legislation and culture
- Advantageous: a food and beverage or QSR management certification, or a relevant in-house certification
- Preferred: Angolan citizenship
- Your CV in English, in PDF format
WHO WE ARE
Hungry Lion started as one store in Stellenbosch in 1997, built on great food and genuine energy. Today that idea runs across 500+ stores in multiple African countries, and we're still growing — backed by smart use of AI and technology and people who think differently. Whether you're on the floor, in the kitchen, or at HQ, you shape what this brand becomes. The best of Hungry Lion is still ahead, and we're looking for people who want to help build it.
