The Associate Dean for Health Sciences provides administrative leadership, oversight, and coordination of Health Sciences programs. This position will report to the Dean of Health Sciences. The primary functions in this position concern management of planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health sciences programs in the Health Sciences Division. Provide visionary and operational leadership for Health Sciences programs, ensuring academic excellence, compliance with accreditation standards, and alignment with Pitt Community College’s mission to serve the community and workforce needs.
Leadership and Administration
- The Associate Dean will provide administrative oversight and supervision of health sciences programs as delegated by the Dean, Health Sciences. Program assignments and supervisory responsibilities may be aligned with the Associate Dean’s clinical expertise and professional background to best support program quality, accreditation compliance, faculty development, and student success.
- Assist the Dean in reviewing accreditation reports and other required documentation; compile and analyze data for program approval, evaluation, and compliance.
- Serve as a liaison for managing resources across Health Sciences programs.
- Ensure adherence to college policies and procedures within Health Sciences departments.
- Collaborate with Program Directors, Department Chairs, and Student Services to maintain accurate student records and tracking systems.
- Support faculty recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation processes in alignment with college guidelines.
- Participate in faculty workload planning in coordination with Department Chairs and Program Directors.
- Foster effective working relationships with Health Sciences committees and serve as a resource for standing and ad hoc committees.
- Provide academic guidance and assist with conflict resolution for students enrolled in Health Sciences programs.
- Represent the division in college committees and task forces as requested.
- Engage with community organizations to address local health education needs and strengthen program visibility.
- Act as designee for the Dean when required and perform other duties as assigned.
Programs and Curriculum Oversight
- Provide leadership in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of Health Sciences programs.
- Oversee scheduling of academic offerings to ensure consistency and quality across programs.
- Monitor compliance with college policies, state regulations, and accrediting agency requirements.
- Guide curriculum development and revision to maintain program relevance and alignment with industry standards.
Partnerships and Collaborations
- Collaborate with college administrators, faculty, and curriculum committees to review and enhance Health Sciences programs.
- Work with internal stakeholders to manage and analyze student, clinical, and academic data for program evaluation and improvement.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with healthcare organizations to create academic-practice opportunities that enhance student learning, support workforce development, and meet community health needs.
Strategic Planning
- Assist the Dean in developing and implementing the division’s strategic plan in alignment with the college’s mission and goals.
- Continuously assess progress toward strategic objectives and recommend updates as needed.
Professional Development and Scholarship
- Engage in professional development and scholarly activities to support program excellence.
- Mentor faculty in pursuing professional growth and scholarly endeavors.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for this position are consistent with NC state legislature and include:
- An active unencumbered license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a healthcare professional.
- Master’s degree in a Health Sciences discipline or a related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in health sciences education, including:
- Teaching experience in a health sciences program.
- Administrative or leadership experience in curriculum development, accreditation, or program management.
- Experience working with accrediting bodies and compliance standards (e.g., ACOTE, CAAHEP, CAHIM, JRCERT, JRC-DMS, CoARC, NLN, or other relevant healthcare agencies).
- Experience in faculty supervision and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate preferred (e.g., Ed.D., PhD., or DNP), especially for leadership and accreditation oversight.

Supplemental Information
Work Environment: Office and field-based work; Frequent collaboration with program staff, campus departments, and community partners; requires independent work in the field and professional communication with diverse adult populations; Extensive use of computers, mobile devices, and presentation equipment; work involves data entry, intake, and documentation in secure systems in compliance with FERPA and TRIO/EOC grant requirements.
Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of driving, sitting, and computer work; Frequent standing, walking, and presenting during site visits and events; ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs and occasionally push/pull a cart with materials; Manual dexterity and visual acuity to complete forms, review documents, and operate standard office/presentation equipment; Ability to speak clearly in group settings and one-on-one; Valid driver’s license.
Required Annual Training: FERPA Compliance, Title IX Compliance, PCI Compliance, Bloodborne Pathogens at Work, Introduction to Cybersecurity, HIPPA Rules & Compliance
Normal Working Hours: Standard schedule, Monday – Friday; with a flexible schedule to meet participant availability and event needs; Evenings and occasional weekends required for recruitment, workshops, and community events; occasional travel to nearby counties/partner locations and periodic training as assigned; Schedule adjustments coordinated to meet grant goals, reporting deadlines, and program priorities.
