Position Overview
The Novelis Greensboro Engineering and Maintenance team is seeking a Baghouse Technician. This role helps maintain environmental compliance and reliable plant operations by ensuring baghouse systems operate within permit requirements and critical process parameters. The ideal candidate combines hands-on mechanical and electrical capability with strong troubleshooting, documentation, and continuous improvement skills.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, take and record readings for critical baghouse operating parameters and respond promptly to alarms, upset conditions and non-routine events.
- Perform visual inspections, operational preventive maintenance and maintenance preventive maintenance on baghouse equipment and related components.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues, with particular emphasis on electrical troubleshooting and safe restoration of equipment.
- Replace or assist with replacement of filter bags and cages, rotary valves, slurry pumps, air cylinders, small motors and connected components.
- Identify equipment performance trends, communicate risks and recommend corrective actions that improve reliability and environmental performance.
- Plan, prioritize and support major outage work and reliability improvements for baghouse systems.
- Create and maintain SAP work orders and purchase requisitions; document equipment condition, completed work and follow-up needs accurately.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, EHS and process owners to resolve equipment and process concerns.
- Collect and analyze operating data to support root cause analysis, problem solving, and effective maintenance or engineering solutions.
- Support continuous improvement and workplace organization activities, including 6S, visual controls, and improved maintenance practices.
- Promote Novelis EHS expectations, maintain safe working conditions, and ensure good housekeeping in assigned areas.
- Coordinate specialized repair or project work with contractors, vendors and service providers while reinforcing plant safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repairs in an industrial environment.
- Ability to respond to alarms and changing operating conditions, prioritize work and manage multiple tasks without sacrificing safety or attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and EHS.
- Ability to use or learn Microsoft Office, SAP and other business or maintenance systems.
- Ability to work safely in an active manufacturing environment and comply with required personal protective equipment, environmental requirements and site procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical coursework in engineering technology, electrical, mechanical, industrial maintenance, computer technology or related field.
- Five or more years of manufacturing experience, including experience in molten metal, aluminum, or heavy industrial operations.
- Experience maintaining baghouses, dust collection systems, rotary valves, slurry pumps, filter bags, cages, air cylinders or small motors.
- Experience using SAP to create work orders and purchase requisitions.
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics, industrial controls, reliability practices, root cause analysis, or continuous improvement methods.
Location Profile
Novelis’ Greensboro facility is located in Greensboro Georgia. With 140 employees it is the first stand-alone used beverage can recycling facility in the company now responsible for pioneering a majority of Novelis’ recycling technologies. Residents enjoy nearby Lake Oconee which includes several golf communities.
